Dormer window treatment

We have a faux dormer window above the front door. How should we hide the roof trusses and plywood? We aren’t sure about painting the glass black.

Comments (14)We are not window treatment people either, but have started to add some as we've reno'd/decorated a few of the rooms in our house; two bathrooms and our office. They really do help to finish off a room. That said, we're not covering our kitchen bow window, or the DR bow window, though I might consider something for the DR window at some point--just for the window panes themselves, not to cover the whole bow-unit. We used Hunter Douglas' Designer Screen Shades in the Roman Shade style (ours are mounted inside the frames becuase of our window style/frame depth). The shades are very clean-lined and range in sheerness. With the sheerer weaves/fabrics, you can see outside with them down and they allow a lot of light in....See MoreWhere to put the dormer(s)? Comments (15)I agree and so does DH, the shed looks best. Thanks to robo for the mock up! Eld6161, my boys' room has one small porthole-style octogon window. I think it's because my second floor probably originally had only two very large bedrooms upstairs. At some point, a previous owner added a wall between one if the rooms to make a third bedroom upstairs. My second shutter vendor was here yesterday to measure and price, etc. The first told me I would find the slider "cumbersome", the second disagreed....and offered a reg. slider or a bi-fold slider. Did you have that option and did you use a bi-fold design anywhere? I do see where it would allow in more light, balance the visual appearance of the door when both open, but I hadn't even been expecting that option and I am typically NOT a bi-fold fan.....thx for any additional info you can share....See MoreWindow Boxes Under Dormer Windows
Comments (8)Your house is charming! I'm a fan of window boxes, but I agree having them on second story windows isn't a good idea in your case. We had them on larger first story windows like yours. There were no drainage problems, but I'm not sure I'd want to plant, replant, water and/or deadhead leaning out of those upper windows (though I did enjoy it at ground level). I think adding some color to the landscaping would be nice. Maybe some pots flanking the door with colorful plantings....See MoreDP
