Just to update, we finally ordered a sectional from Century. It is L shaped with a loveseat on one wall and a sofa length on the other. The good thing is that it is 43" deep so it should be very comfortable to lay on. We chose a chenille type fabric in a greenish tone. We started the room's decor off by picking 2 oriental rugs and pulling colors from that. The sofa comes with 7 throw pillows, so I chose 2 different fabrics for 4 of those. We'll see if it works or not when it comes in! On another note, once we started to choose decor, we realized the color on the walls was pukey and we had to get the painters back to change from blue to brown. I'm so glad we did that. It really warms up a basement room with no windows. The lighting is what made color selection so tricky. Also in there, we got a leather recliner from Hancock & Moore. And the really neat looking Wisteria Barn door coffee table. Funny thing is that when it arrived, it really did smell like a...barn door! Fortunately that smell has disapated.

Thank you! I know I start all over the place, and I don't always hit the mark, but so far I really love this room! Y'all were a big help. I totally could have gone with a solid rug or solid curtains I agree. I just really love pattern. The kids do LOVE the rug, which I was not expecting :) Last night my 2 year old said "mommy, I love the rug so much I want it upstairs (in the bedroom)" I thought that was funny. I am embarrassed to admit this, but in our primary residence we have 4 sectional sofas. Our living/dining room has a high end sectional from NC. We have oriental rugs, oil paintings and antiques in that room as well..it was just a challenge to find a sectional that would fit that style. Our family and rec rooms have leather sectionals. Our sunroom has windows on three sides with views of the back yard and future plans to open up to our kitchen. This is where we spend most of our time, and where our friends hang out with us as well. What I love about sectionals is, you can provide plenty of seating in large AND small areas. What changes with sectionals is back height, arm-size/style (or lack of arms), number of pieces and configurations. You really have to do careful room planning to be sure it will fit in your room properly. If you have friends/family over, consider how much seating you'll need. This will help you determine if a sofa would be sufficient or if you should go the sectional route. Oh, I want to add, you should always look for hardwood frames, 8 way tied spring seats, high rub counts on the upholstery and understand what type of cleaner to use on the fabric as well.

Thanks for the great tips. Yes, it's a good point that 16 won't be sitting at the same time...more like 12 or so. Sadly, I have to go fairly dark due to the cleaning and staining issues. I should have added that I plan to add a large 12 x 15 area rug to break up the dark sofas from the darkish wood. I can't go with medium gray because it will look too "matchy-matchy" with the med. gray stone fireplace. Quick question/concern...I searched for sofas that are made from "Sunbrella" people here suggested and there are only a few and they are outdoor sofas. Mostly, the Sunbrella fabric is pillows. Also, I'll be removing both sofa tables behind the sofas that are there now, so that will give me another~ 4+ feet. But I still plan on putting more narrow sofa tables as I don't want the sofas right up against the walls, so it will be more like an extra 2 feet I'll be gaining. Any other suggestions for a "tough" fabric that won't be torn easily? We've had issues with guests sitting on the sofas, etc., with keys, etc, in their back pockets that tear the fabric or snag it. What are opinions on leather? Vinyl? Also, I'd like to lighten up the room with a cleaner, more modern white (ish) paint, maybe with a touch of gray, )but not with any blue or "pink" in it.) The walls are now painted Sherwin-Williams "Accessible Beige" and the Doors (not seen in the pictures are "Dovetail"...which I LOVE, but is way too dark for the walls. I've already gone down the line of the "Dovetail" paint strip and the lighter colors look kinda "pink-ish" in that room.) Thanks again everyone
