Travel Agent Stories
Comments (8)LOL... These reminded me of days when I worked for Continental Airline as a reservation agent. One night, the rain poured down and flooded the streets nearby the company. The res agents for the next shift couldn't come in and we were stuck and couldn't go home. So, we stayed and worked OT. One woman called, with a panic voice, she insisted that I go outside in the rain, using a binocular to look up beyond the clouds, and see if her DH's plane was able to land. "His flight number is ... , can you see it?!?". One unusual day, we had light ice condition in Houston. A lady called. With a concern voice, she insisted to either stop the plane from taking off or not allowing her DH on the plane. I calmed her down and explained that the plane is being de-iced and reminded her that these planes were built to withstand this type of weather condition. After all, these planes have been in worse weather at up North. "Oh, yeah, thank you" she replied. During hurricane season, we also had many people cancelling their flights. I reminded them that the plane can fly over the hurricane or around it. "It can?!?" (click). One unpleasant thing to hear as a res agent is when people make reservation in the restroom. Yuk! Sounds do paint a pic literally in front of you....See MoreJune's challenge: renew (or file for) your passport
Comments (34)My passport had long expired, but when my daughter was anticipating doing a study abroad semester, I decided we should have a little mother/daughter lunch/passport celebration, even though my husband and I were not planning on going to see her at the time. Glad that I did it though, because we decided we just had to go meet the wonderful family hosting her, and oh, why not go to London and Paris on our way to Spain?? Plus, we get to think of our fun day together each time we look at those fabulous passport pics! elizabethzen - thanks for the reminder on the intl dl; we have whetted our appetite for more intl travel and may just get adventurous and try driving our next trip. And if anyone is going to Paris for lunch, can I come too?...See MoreIf you've renewed a passport, can you answer these questions?
Comments (11)Typical government rip-off, you get cheated out of 6-9 months of a 10 year purchase. (Why not make it 11 years??) Book to your hearts content, travel people could care less if you have one or not. But they remind you that boarding can't be done without proper documentation. I got mine right before the last price hike. Some peoples travel qualifies them to use the Passport Card. Cheaper. You get your old one back, punched invalid, but keep it. It is still a vaild form of ID. Happy travels to some beautiful sunny beach....See MoreForgetfulness!!!
Comments (3)Kids remember what they WANT to remember. Maybe she doesn't like playing violin so she 'forgets' and she didn't want to do her homework... or it wasn't that important to her. She is obviously willing to accept the consequences if she must... although it doesn't hurt to try and get out of it by crying or calling you to bail her out. (then when you say no, she can shift the blame to 'but they wouldn't let me stay up to do my work' or 'she wouldn't bring me my instrument'... we all know they are not really good or reasonable excuses, but to a kid it seems like an out.) "I forgot" is the easiest way for a kid to get out of doing something without a real reason. How can you argue with them? Usually, you can't PROVE they really didn't forget but just didn't want to do it. One of the things I started doing with my kids when they 'forgot'... all of a sudden, I would forget something THEY wanted. (and I would probably call the teacher and ask to give her a loaner. THAT is the consequence to forgetting her own. She isn't going to get out of going to the lesson because she 'forgot' hers. That's what I would do...)...See Moresocks
