Do you know what is in your shampoo?

What a mysterious and confusing array of hair products and shampoo on the shelves of the stores!

Trying to make a good decision from the information given on the bottles is almost pointless.

I have tried to find something that makes my white frizzy hair behave and I am bewildered.

I see that keratin is the current rage in hair products. So, I began to google it and one thing that I discovered is that just because it has some form of keratin in it, not all keratin is the same.

There is keratin that is useless and is just used to promote the product, like in chocolate chip cookies made with whole wheat. And, there are some that actually seem to derive some benefit from the proper type of keratin that is used in it. Or, so they claim.

I also read that keratin is an animal product. It is derived from............hair. It used to harvested from human hair. I am not sure where it comes from nowdays but did find one source that claims it is harvested from wool fibers. I also have read that, unless the keratin comes from an animal source, it will not bond to our head of animal hair. It must be of animal extraction.

All of you folks who try to avoid any animal products should probably heed this. I read that it is also derived from hoofs of slaughter animals.

It also is used in hair straightening chemicals along with formaldehyde. Scary stuff, that.

I have read, previously, that in the past human hair from barber shops was gathered and sold to extract amino acid proteins from. Asian hair has the most amino acids and was the most valuable.

There is even an amino acid that was/is used in producting bread that makes for a shorter rise time in the factory. This was extracted from human hair.

It seems that most of this is done from the hair of animals other than humans now.

What else is in these shampoo bottles?

You see so many claims that it has this or that, for some reason. You see things like honey, and different oils, and extracts of flowers and plants. But, is there any validity that they are of any use? I would wager that there probably is not.

One thing that I do know is that after getting my hair cut it just behaves and feels so nice. I am going to ask more about just what it is that she is using on my hair. I asked once and she waved the bottle around a bit and said something about keratin. So, I went looking for keratin based shampoo and found that I did not know enough about it to make a decision. I also found that some of them are incredibly expensive. Before I shell out that much for shampoo, I am going to learn more about it.

I have tried the shampoo bars and I am of mixed opinion about them. I like the idea of bar instead of a plastic bucket, but still my hair looks like it could be tender for a brush fire.

I find myself in the same dilemna when it comes to skin lotions. So many mysterious ingredients in there and I dont know what any of them are. I look for oil of some identifiable sort. Myself, I would just prefer a known oil all by itself, and leave it at that. Other things in that bottle are there to help it distribute and to flash off the wet feeling of it. Then there are fragrences and such.

This same lack of real information can be extended to most personal products that we buy.

I guess I will keep searching for information and try to make an informed decision.

Do you really know what is in your shampoo bottle?
