I like to give 50 instant lottery tickets. I recall a long time ago that, what you are buying when you buy a lottery ticket, is the fun of thinking what you'd splurge on if you won.

After fifty years together, I can‘t imagine they need or want any material thing. I’ve been married ”only” 38 years and the last thing I want is more ”stuff” to clutter up this place! A gift certificate to a nice, local restaurant would be my first choice. Or, if there is one fairly close by, to a gourmet food shop.

Another idea is a gift card to Mackenzie Limited, a gourmet food online place. Over the years, I I’ve gotten some wonderful foods from them, the first due to a gift certificate that we received ourselves. www.mackenzieltd.com

My aunt and uncle celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last week. He is what can be called a sports fanatic. After 65 years his wife is also.

My sister gave them both a night at the Texas Ranger's ballpark. Something they can both enjoy.

I had to go look up "pickleball". Are there any tournaments nearby? Are they interested in other sports?

Nuts, When i dictate a post on Houzz into my iphone, it comes out repeated like 20 times, but as if I stuttered. My post was just "I like to give 50 instant lottery tickets" but it took a whole paragraph and was repeated out of order...

I agree, not a pretty to sit on a shelf to collect dust, not even a gold picture frame. It has to be a practical but good/fun gift, like the lottery tickets, & gifts cards that Lynn mentioned.

Thanks all. I considered a restaurant card but have no idea what cuisines they prefer or if they are dining out yet. With the MacKenzie gift card they can order so many different things—-cheese platters, dinner for two, cake, etc. I know with the variety they’ll find something they like! I had never heard of this company but it’s going in my notes for future gifts.

Heads up though—-it looks like they do NOT have e-gift or printable gift cards, only the actual card and it takes roughly ten days shipping. I’m glad I looked and didn’t just assume I could print it out the day before the party.

My go to is a bottle of champagne, regardless of the number of years they’ve been married. Everyone likes to celebrate 🍾🥂

When my siblings and I had a party for my parents' 50th they didn't want gifts. Those who broke the "rule" mostly brought booze. Mom is a sentimental sweetheart and loved the cards. Dad? He was quite pleased with his haul.

Maybe you could donate to a charity to benefit 50 things...like 50 vaccines for children in India or Africa, or something to save/benefit 50 creatures, or plant 50 trees, or provide 50 of something for children on an Indian Reservation, or ??? You get the idea.

Though you won't know their passions/favored projects, there is hardly anyone who wouldn't want to support something that benefits children or the planet.

I like the idea of something consumable or a charity donation in their name. I would steer clear of alcohol as a gift, though, unless you know for sure that they imbibe - and not everyone does. Hope it's a lovely celebration!
