To paint or not to paint ceiling the same as the wall color?

I am closing on a resale home in Naples and the entire interior must be painted. The ceiling height is about 12 ft. I like soft colors and was thinking of painting the ceiling the same color as my wall color. The ceiling is currently white. Thoughts or suggestions?

I like to paint the walls and ceilings the same color as it is less expensive rather than having to cut in a different color on the ceiling. You will find that with various shadows during the day the walls and ceiling will automatically look different. Although, if you are planning on a really dark color it's probably best not to do the ceiling the same color; otherwise, it would be too dark.

I agree with Sandee. I'm a ceiling and wall in the same color but not sheen. This is a hotly contested topic which skews to white ceiling, but a few if us hold fast to same color. An even fewer individuals advocate for a completely different color. I'm glad they exist to keep things lively :)

There's no hard and fast rule. It does cost a little less to do the same color, labor wise although you'll buy a different sheen.

For dark colors go a few/shades lighter for the ceiling.

I'm having the same dilemma. At first I thought it would be okay to have the walls and ceilings throughout my entire house all the same color, then I saw a photo on Pinterest of a beautiful effect in a crossbeam ceiling, where the beams were white, and the squares in between were a beautiful, rich tan color and I want to do that in my living room (12 ft. crossbeam ceilings)..Then it got me to thinking that I probably want all of my 11 ft. ceilings in my new house light and bright...white or off white anyways. So now I'm trying to figure out if I should just change to an off-white color to have sprayed on all walls/ceilings, then paint the walls whatever colors I want or keep the fawn color I originally chose and go ahead and let them spray that, then paint the walls/ceilings on the rooms I want changed. I almost think it would be less labor intensive and therefore more cost effective to just have them spray the white over everything and paint the walls I want painted. thoughts? I need to decide quickly. They're about to drywall in another week or so!

These vaults cause a lot of trouble. Yes, you can paint it all the same. I've done that and there are pros and cons. Pros - lessens the "vault" as a feature. Brings the ceiling down. Softens the transition. This is especially true if there are no architectural elements - just a vast expanse of sheetrock. Cons - the ceiling will appear darker throughout the day depending on lighting and cloud cover. In a gray color, this can be depressing.

I, too, can appreciate shiplap - but it doesn't match the style of your home, especially if you are adding crown molding! Honor the home's style - it's beautiful as is. Paint all the walls one color, white ceilings (or a very light mixture of the wall paint color).

I would need to see a bit more of the space and I dislike beige in any shade but yes you can do the ceiling in a 50% cut and I would do that faux finished one too. Before doing anything make sure all the light bulbs are LEDs in 4000K.

As long as the wall color is light it will be ok to paint the ceiling the same color❣️Colored ceilings can look great and unexpected.
