Surface of quartz - Emerstone / Akdo

I finally picked out the quartz I wanted to use which is Emerstone Borghini Silver. Akdo also produces this quartz under the name Statuario Bello. I recently noticed the slabs have this grainy texture on top. It is smooth to the touch but you can see it in certain lights. Makes me think it would look more fake. Trying to decide how much this would bother me, I'm so dissapointed as I am struggling to find another option. Any thoughts?

Are you sire thats not from dried water that they wiped it with? i have lg viatera and i can see similar if i wipe it with a wet sponge and let too much water air dry. in ceetain ligjts there are streaks.

@Navy Momma That film is on all three samples I have plus you can see it in the first picture I posted. That is a slab at the warehouse, in the upper left corner in the light you can see the film. Unfortunately, I think that is just how they make it.

Well, many merchants will not reveal what they pay for material. I sure don't for my business (not in any way related to home improvement). Many people may balk at the markup, but don't stop to consider that the merchant has labor and overhead costs to pay with that markup and a reasonable amount of profit. From what I've seen of granite fabrication, due to our kitchen reno, it is a very labor intensive process (moving slabs around, cutting, edging, polishing, templating, installation), so I can see much of their markup going to labor. Make sure to get quotes from multiple fabricators. We got quotes ranging from $4K to $7K, which was rather surprising. Some fabricators may not be as price competitive as others, but some might be worth a bit of extra expense if they have really good customer service.

Frankly, I agree with all the posters that are advising against tiling the fireplace..I, for one, don't see any reason for that. It looks good already. You might want to add mantle; but even without mantle, art that you love will have the biggest transformation ..quotient so to say, and will have the biggest potential to make you the happiest. Now, what's the inner reasoning of your husband for tiling it? Since it's a new build I'm sure it's up to code already. If he just likes stone, feel of stone, texture or veining of stone etc-maybe introduce it in the room in a different way. Stones are incredibly popular right now too. You can find coffee/side tables, lamps, clocks, trays that will consist of/integrate some stone as an important element..some of these are indefinitely cool too. They'll allow for bigger variety in materials and textures, and they'll give your room that vibe that probably appeals to your husband, without unnessesary spending money on a big element that looks great as is.

It's the fact that it's custom that makes it expensive. I can't imagine why anyone would want it. I hand wash my pots but dry them immediately and then re-hang them on my pot rack. When I use dishes that must be hand washed. I use a drying mat - so easy. I would not want to give up flat counters on either side of my sink.

How do you use your kitchen? And who uses your kitchen? Do you have small children? or maybe elderly parents living with you? Are you a messy cook or a tidy reheat take out kind of cook? Are you the kind of party entertainer that cleans right after the party catching the spilled red wine or do you wait until the morning? Do you use lots of olive oil, red wine and mustard? When we had kids I would have loved quartz in our home. My kids used our kitchen as their lab for experiments or a place to make messy pizza or sprinkled cupcakes. We were a messy active family that spilled things. You might not see the spilled food coloring immediately. We chose a dark granite in a graphite color. It was wonderful and worked for us. Fast forward to our home today. We have chosen a white delicate marble with adult kids who only come into town for the holidays. It is perfect for us and we love it. I looked into white granites but there are many that have issues that crop up later. Now that I say that Quartz has had a few complaints too. Here are some links... Hmm. weird. youve cleanee and dried your sample and its still there? i have an emerstone sample at my house (different color, borghini d’oro) and its not on this sample.

@Navy Momma Yes, I did try cleaning them maybe it is just this particular pattern

Okay i just took out my sample and i see it on there too. i dont think its a defect. a natural stone wouldn't be solid white.

I have a sample of another quartz too, will compare. not an emerstone one.

This is Mikado quartz ”statuario classic” and its the same. i just think thats how quartz is.

@Navy Momma Thank you for those photos. I wonder if only certain brands have it.

@Joseph Corlett, LLC I agree, I know I am not the type of person that can deal with etching of real stone, as much as I love marble.

I did see another quartz by Spectrum and it doesn't seem to have that film. Not sure I like the pattern as much.

I have chosen the same quartz for my new kitchen! Love it. I am struggling with the backsplash though. Wanted to do a soft white ceramic tile but they are so white against the quartz. Do they have to match perfectly? My cabinets are white also. Thoughts?
