White granite? Vs Silestone Calcatta Gold quartz
We are doing a kitchen remodel (white shaker cabinets,) and debating whether to use a nice whiteish granite, vs Calcatta gold quartz. My husband thinks quartz looks and feels like plastic, and now he has me convinced the same and I cant unsee it.
What are your thoughts on this white granite? We fell in love with it yesterday. Or should we just play it safe and use the popluar quartz? Thanks!
Floor color is similar to floors seen in bottom pic.

2 years agoWe have white shaker cabinets and went with white granite. I also like natural stone. Even though I love the clean look of white quartz. White granite gave me a pretty similar look.

The problem with the white granites is that they can be more delicate. Reasearch before deciding.
My kitchen with the ”plastic” Calcutta!No problem with finding stains as you see them right away. However, I have found coffee stains, tomatoe stains etc days later.

Comments (21)Hi Eugenie- I'm guessing you're in FFC since you were at Ring's End and based on your post about your son's car. ;) I was totally sent on absolute black honed until I started reading about it here. (actually I shouldn't say totally set I've been all over the place...marble, granite, soapstone). Anyway, I finally put a deposit down on leathered jet mist granite. I LOVE it! It's not a solid black like AB.I was going to do jet mist honed until I felt the leathered slabs...I don't know the best way to describe it, but they feel almost soft. Anyway, I don't know how they're going to do w/dust and fingerprints b/c I haven't had it installed yet, but I'm pretty sure every post I've read here from someone who has it loves it. Everest Marble in Norwalk has some great slabs of Jet Mist right now. I don't think there were any more leathered ones, but I know they have a lot of honed (I was there last Saturday). If you're looking for a fabricator so far I've been really happy with La Pietra in Brookfield (ask for Fabiana). Comments (4)Granite upkeep is very easy for many granites. The difficulty of using natural stone is that they aren't all the same. Some require sealing and some don't. Even the stones that need sealing don't need it that often. We asked friends with granite when we were buying and they rarely seal more than once every few years. We got our "granite" (Azul do Mar, a quartzite) over 5 years ago and haven't sealed since it was installed. Our fabricator insisted on sealing it at install because he seals all granite, but based on the test we did on our sample, it didn't even need that - nothing stained the unsealed sample. People were agonizing about granite going "out" back when we were choosing too. There is a wide range of granites available. Particular colors may go up and down in popularity (and availability) - e.g. absolute black was hot on GW 6 years ago; now the light ones that look similar to marble are getting the most attention here. But that doesn't mean that black is out. I don't think that granite will ever be "out" but 10 years from now, there will probably still be some people agonizing about whether it will. People tend to think of avocado and harvest gold - how in they were and how bad they looked to us later. I take comfort that people have to go back 4 decades to find a kitchen design fad that crashed so badly. Most of the time our tastes don't swing so wildly. Our granite is a lot more busy than the persa avorio granite you are considering and we still love it as much as when we put it in. Comments (18)"Quartz and man made stones are now more expensive because of demand." Not always... Some exotic granite slabs can cost more than quartz. Granite prices vary because you have cheap china slabs to mid grade to exotic.. But popular/overused low to mid grade granite is typically cheaper than quartz. I agree that Quartz is popular right now and demand is driving prices up. 2 years agoI always gravitate towards marble first(!!!) and then the lighter granites, although the quartzites are amazing! Just not a fan of quartz. I picked out Colonial Ice for a kitchen area in our lower level. (Saving the marble for the main kitchen remodel.)
It will be sealed on site with this:STAIN-PROOF | Dense Stone Impregnating Sealer (drytreat.com)
They will test after the first coat to see if it needs a second.
