How about some vertical siding in a darker gray IMO that stone is very heavy looking and would not have been my choice for the chimney either but ceratinly not for the breezeway.

I believe the stone would look very nice there. It’s not a large portion of the front of your house. If you look at really old homes that were built in the 1800’s, there are homes that would have that type of mixed exterior. Think of it as the original cottage. Then when the farmer became prosperous, he added a larger addition in materials he could afford.

Why not match the lap siding used elsewhere? I would not choose the rock.

I think the lap siding you have on the rest will look the best. Is there a reason, that it cant be used? No stone, if you just cant get the lap siding, to match, then, use vertical siding, and paint it to match the lap siding.

I can’t imagine that board and batten “siding” would be that difficult for skilled builders to create. That said…I would wait until you can get what you want. And I like what you want. No to stone. Horizontal siding is your other option that would look good.

I would hold out for the siding your originally preferred. The stone doesn't tie into anything else that can be seen from the front of your house.

I like the board and batten as a transitional siding. It speaks to building over time. Can he get in another light color to compliment your lap siding?

I asked my husband just to get a second opinion. We both like the stone. It reminds us of his sister’s house that was built before the civil war. It has that type of mixed stone and siding. Her house is registered because it was a safe house on the underground railroad.

Thanks for all of the input! My husband is 100% against the stone. I think we will just wait on the B&B at this point. Skilled builders our contractor is not- unfortunately! It’s been quiet a bumpy ride.
