What do you clean your white vinyl porch railing with?
Comments (29)I have a vinyl pergola and it has vines on it all summer. When I take down the vines, I simply spray it down with 409. I let the 409 sit for a few minutes, then run a very soft brissel brush all over it. Then I hose it down. It is rare that I have to pay any special attention to a given area. I clean the outside vinyl on all of my windows the same way, about twice a year. I've been in my house for 32 years and that vinyl is looks new....See MoreInstalling a rail on a flat roof
Comments (5)You can A use steel post conectors, bolt them to the roof framing, roof over them with all needed flashing and hope the roofers did not make one single mistake doing it. B.roof the thing, lay down stringers in the direction of the flow, screw the decking to the stringers fasten the posts to the deck. Or C. remove the gutter and the siding and the trim so you are down to the rim joists.Put on high quality facia. Roof the thing with a torch down modified they will use 4 x 4'' flashing with a drip edge. Back your rail posts with rubber flashing and bolt them to the rim joists thru the facia after counter sinking the bolt holes in the rail posts. Back up the rubber flashing with tightbond const adhesive on the top. Forget the gutter or install it so the drip edge drains into it. I have and never will do A or B now C I have done 50 times or so. J....See MoreHelp with porch railing color on front elevation of yellow brick house
Comments (22)Trying to maintain the simple lines of the existing structure. Remove gable and use same roof material everywhere. New roof extends to existing ridge. Columns smaller. Remove additions around garage door. I'd ask for a drawing showing no shutters under the porch, and correctly sized shutters shown too. https://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/residential-architecture-101-shutters/...See MoreShould I remove the porch railing? Comments (10)One way to make window boxes low maintenance is not to fill the box with dirt but to put dirt into small pots and planters, root the plants in those and then put those inside the window box. With any window box or planter, frequent water and good drainage is most important. If i had just bought that house i would simply lighten up the porch woodwork, probably with a light green sage, but maybe some type of white. Then i woud live through at least the entire summer before making landscape and facade changes. The house is perfectly respectable as is, so no need to rush. You’ll know a lot more about how light affects the house and flower beds other things if you watch for awhile and you’ll end up with a better design-if you wait for more info....See MoreHeather
