CMK- If you try eggplants in pots, chances are you will find as I and many others have found that they seem to do better in containers than in the ground. I use what they call "Al's mix", a very well draining and aerated mix, but I'm sure any good container "potting mix" will do well too. I do mine in 5 gallon containers and they get 6 or 7 feet tall, bushy and crank out fruit until frost. I do peppers the same way and they do really well also.....both much better than any I was able to grow in the ground. Especially the egglants will need watering daily when they get going, unless you do a self-watering container. I've done some winter squash, but they don't do as well. Have fun!

I'm still mastering the art of fall gardening, but I think that if your bed doesn't get enough light in summer for veggies, it really won't work at all for fall growing. As the summer wears on, the light gets to be less and less, as well as lower in the sky, but the leaves won't be dropping until the weather gets cold. This all adds up to no growth for veggies in a shaded lot. At least that was the conclusion I came to at the old house, where we had lots of shade. It was fine for spring crops, but that was about it. I think that the idea that they will take off once it gets cooler is flawed, in that they need a strong beginning to take off from, which they won't get growing in the shade. But like I said, I'm still learning. So maybe there are ways around this obstacle that I don't know. Good luck!

I borrowed that pink chair from where I'd posted it in the Cottage thread in the Gallery. I've been having fun over there. I thought you'd get a kick out of it! It's cute as can be and twice as gutsy. Your room is shaping up just great. I love the cozy feel. Formal is lovely but can look un-touchable sometimes, you know? Everyone loves a good kick-back casual room, especially if it's pretty. Reno ~~ I really do like the shape of these chairs better than the other chair you asked about. These are more graceful. If they're comfy, I say go for it. You could re-cover them a kazillion ways so they should always find a place in some room or another. They will probably work just fine in there as they are. Just toss a red pillow on them and drape a throw over one. You can always re-do them later if you want. Go for it! Rhonda ~~ I love your chair! DH laid it in the back floor of the car and then forgot about it. He moved the seat back and squished it (the screen was against the seat and the actual computer part was "possibly" protected since the screen was between it and the seat. I may just have to invest in a hard side case instead of a soft side one. So far I have gotten everything off- still need to dig out the internet bookmarks. I am actually using it right now to send this. The right side of the screen scrolls very quickly by itself (think old B/W TVs where you had to adjust the connected rabbit ears) then there is a giant white section and then the left 1/3 of the screen works but has black sports the size of a silver dollar. I just ran my statistical software and the analysis is coming out like it did this morning. This is a snapshot of the laptop screen (I added the red square to show that is supposed to be my desktop. When I do an "Alt+PrtSc" and save it as a picture, I get the whole desktop (hope I do not offend anyone with my pic, it is from LOL-Cat and so cute!) I just used my level and it appears to NOT be warped... tried it on the desk and the floor because the house and desk are both over 100 years old and not that level, themselves... but the button in the level appears to be in the same spot where it is sitting directly on the desk or on the laptop sitting on the desk. Since the alt-print screen show everything and the software appears to be working, am I fairly safe that the computer is okay? What else should I do to check the hard drive? THANK YOU!!!!
