Toning down my WAY too yellow-orange walls...
Comments (19)lazygardens, Highway Stripe Orange is how my builder described the color too! He tried to make me feel better by claiming it was growing on him but finally admitted it was pretty bad. Scarlett, we used Ivoire for the ceiling and it's lovely. I took lazygardens' advice and painted some swatches on large white sheets of poster board and checked them at different times of the day. I ultimately decided to go with SW Blonde, which coincidentally is the color my painter has in his own house. He said he'd painted it several times in spec homes and liked it so when he repainted his house, he used it. That made me feel quite a bit better. Anyway, he repainted my walls this weekend and hardly charged me much for the change. It is SO much better. I was worried it might be too neutral, but it still has a golden tone in most light. I don't have fixtures in yet, but as I tend to prefer warmer light bulbs, I imagine the lights will only enhance the golden tones which is what I want. I'm very happy with it. If anyone else is going for that South of France yellowy gold color, I recommend trying it. I almost went with SW Restrained Gold which is one shade darker on the same paint strip, but I'm glad I went with my first instinct. It's perfect. Oh, and for those who asked, the finish was and is eggshell. No problem at all covering the orange color with the new golden color. I'd say there was about four days between paint and repaint....See MoreUsing wall color to tone down yellow, solid oak floors.
Comments (6)Consider a cream or a green with gray undertone or gray with green undertone. Cool grays with warm woods are often a miss, but green grays, which are usually warmish, seem to help bridge the cool / warm divide. A warm wood kitchen combined with lots of white can also be a calm place. These cabinets are not alder - but it is calm and would be calmer if the grout was a lighter gray or even white: You don't show the sink wall, but with all that storage along the fridge wall, you might remove some sink wall cabinets and leave more open area. Put up some calm and pretty artwork instead. This kitchen is also not alder, but the increased window and decreased cabinets make for a calm and pretty space: You don't need to tile the walls - just a pretty painted wall with some pretty calm art would work. Before you paint the cabinets, look at the possibility of calming other surfaces, especially the backsplash if it is at all busy. This is one green gray which might work. I might do a slightly lighter shade....See MoreCan I simply reglaze my kitchen cabinets to rid yellow under-tones?
Comments (14)Here is how I would expect a pro to spray paint kitchen cabinets. An amateur job should follow the same path. A brush painted job would differ slightly in that you wouldn't hang the doors to paint. You'd place them on a work table or easel instead. It's time intensive work, and should take 7-14 days for a Pro to accomplish completely and cost between 8--10K depending on kitchen size and amount of detail in cabinets. Remove doors and drawer fronts. Remove hinges and hardware. Clean with Spic and Span Rinse and let dry. Scrape any loose finish. Fill any damaged spots or hardware holes that won't be reused. Sand fill smooth. Scuff sand the rest. Tack off dust. Hang in dust free paint booth with wires through hardware points to spray both sides. Or lay on a spinner, and do one side at a time. Tack off dust again. Spray with shellac based primer. Scuff sand again. Tack off dust. Spray with second coat of primer. Spray with first finish coat of a polyurethane enamel (DIY) Or conversion varnish, (Pro product) . NOT house paint. Never house paint. Spray with second coat. If glazing is to occur, that is next. Spray with clear over glaze that is compatible with base coat and glaze. Add more molding or decorative details to boxes, filling nail holes and sanding smooth. Repeat prep process with face frames and exposed cabinet sides using plastic to create a spray booth on site. If interiors are to be done, they are done before face frames and sides. Interiors are difficult, and add both time and expense to the job. Most interiors are laminate and don't accept paint well. Allow everything to fully cure. That's 7-14 days. Clean hinges and hardware and clear coat if you're keeping the old hardware. Install new (or old) hinges and hardware. Re-install doors and drawers and adjust for proper clearances. If you are receiving or doing a job without this amount of effort, then you are not getting a quality job. You are getting a poor quality job that will not last. Anyone who paints cabinets with the doors on should be fired immediately. If they paint the hardware too, go straight to smacking them also, and saving the world from such complete ineptness....See MoreDoes your London Grey Caesarstone counter have any yellow tone?
Comments (6)Lauren Daley, I am very pleased with the quality. I got one tiny chip near the sink early on because I accidentally banged a pot very hard into the edge of the sink. I have a second tiny one, it’s really more of a white mark than a chip, where I dropped a heavy glass jar on the counter. I don’t notice either of them at all. The only other issue I’ve had is water spots around the faucet in my powder room because my son uses it and I forget to go in and wipe it down frequently. Standing water will leave mineral deposits so in my kitchen I am careful to keep water puddles wiped up. I’m also careful to use trivets or a folded towel under anything extremely hot. I still love the way it looks and get a lot of compliments on it....See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
