Flooring Design Dilemma

transition from hardwood to LVP

We want to replace the bedroom carpets with LVP. We have 3/8 hardwood in the hallway and were told that the transition at the doorway would be dangerously uneven and create a trip hazard. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you handle it?

I would need more info but IMO mixing those 2 types of flooring is not a good idea. I would need to know why you can't do a proper transition strip just like any other meeting of 2 types of flooring. IMO bettert o get unfinished engineered wood and have it stained to match the rest .

When I went to replace my hallway flooring, they no longer had my kitchen flooring available ( my hallway leads into my kitchen). I chose Italian porcelain wood look tile for
my hallway, and my carpenter fabricated a nice transition piece❣️

Rule #1 Never grout to wood. Grout is a guaranteed failure. Especially up against floorboard end cuts. To apply something over the top looks cheap and should always be avoided IMO. See what the installer offers and do not hesitate to ask why this detail was not discussed prior. It would not be the end of the world to have 2pcs. of tile removed and replaced with a proper transition.

I was in a similar situation and was rethinking my initial choice of LVP, wondering if instead I should get engineered wood. I did lots of research on the pluses and minuses of both AND then I visited the floor store to take an actual look at what I would be getting. By the way, I only visited real floor stores, not big box stores. The decent quality engineered wood (the only kind I would even consider installing) was a lot more expensive that the top-of-the-line LVP I was considering. The saleswoman told me how much extra getting good quality engineered would cost me (lots!). I stuck with the LVP and am happy with the decision.

I probably wasn't entirely clear. If I run the LVT to the end of the drawer base on the sink wall, I will go past the fridge niche and run straight into the living room! So that is not going to work. I thought about using a flexible transition strip from the LVT to the hardwood, but I have never really liked that look. There are windows at the end of the drawer base and another window at the strange little filler next to the range. This was a very difficult kitchen layout.

Is that a wood look tile? If it is , then you will want to make sure the tile is the same thickness so no transition is needed. I don't think that is going to look that good though - it looks like the floor will cut across an island?? or is that just cabinets sitting there?? Need some different photo angles .

Thank you for the picture. We have been told that due to the thickness - really thinness of the LVP compared to the thickness of the hardwood there would be a trip hazard at the transition -Even when using a reducer. Are your floors the same height? If not, is it an issue?

Our floors were the same height, no issue.
