Kitchen Accent Wall, Clash?

We are in the midst of renovating our home and I am unsure if adding an accent wall here will clash with the peninsula. Furthermore, will having two different patterns in this situation conflict?

So the wall in question is the one with the mirror (the mirror is not staying). The black peninsula is going to be vertical shiplap, painted Intellectual Gray, SW. Finally, the backsplash is getting replaced with white brick veneer to match our fireplace (see pic below).

The accent wall I was thinking would be something like these. The wall would still stay the same color as the rest though, trying to stay very minimal.

Id appreciate any and all feedback or alternative suggestions! Thank you :)

few things.

why would you cover you current backsplash w/a brick veneer? I think it's a poor choice.

I like the current backsplash much better. Doing that brick veneer w/a the more formal sqaure panel wall treatment won't be the best match.

(make sure you're really good on your math so that the wall is symmetrical)

leave the tile for now. or if you really want to change it, then do something like Zellige or the Cloe Tile. Much, much better looking tile.

(and I like the 4x4 or 5x5 size tiles because they mimic the squar panel trim on the wall. looks way better than matching your brick on the fireplace. )

I like this wall treatment for the dining wall.

match your peninsula w/the same type of trim. if you want shiplap, then do the dining wall w/shiplap. Not both

here's a modified shiplap w/border edging trim

I like this one too. a chevron in a dark charcoal stain.

what's wrong w/a little contrast? you're picking a light gray and all that white. bring in a little contrast

then you could do your fireplace w/something like this

IMO those walls are traditional (which your cabinets are) and shiplap is beachy/coastal. I would not use both in the same area

Thanks for the feedback! I should also mention, we are doing new upper cabinets and doors for the bottom. More than likely will still be white though. They will be the same as the ones we used for the built in (living room)

We have the Wolf AG 36" range and the first KA fridge pictured above. They are installed along the same wall, with one cabinet between them. They look fine together. I'm sure the SZ's take it up a notch as far as a more pro/industrial look is concerned. The newly re-designed KA's do look much nicer than the previous design though(IMHO). I will say that the SS color doesn't match exactly, but it's not something that really jumps out at you or looks bad in any way (and I'm picky! LOL).

I think I would exchange for black if there's anything else black in your kitchen to relate to it, or the silver if you prefer it. Almost twice the price doesn't seem worth it for a color change, but if your heart is set on white maybe it is. In any case, I think your BF would understand if you thanked him for the thoughtful gift and exchanged it for a color that is more harmonious with your current kitchen.

ah, ok. so you have the quartz. hmmm,, I really like the Ikea option w/the decor in your house. I think it would be perfect. you may be able to lift off the countertop that's there and preserve it to go atop new cabs. sometimes the adhesive isn't down very well. But, if not, and you want the new tile, I'd go for something a bit more modern looking. Here's my pick. I like the chevron mosaic, new knobs, and the darker paint color (mentioned below) the other tile on here is a warm gray/tan frosted glass tile. (Tilebar) if you want subway, do something thinner and in a stacked pattern. I'd also switch out your hardware to something nicer looking, and think about painting the walls around the cabinet w/something w/contrast. Maybe Kendall Charcoal? I think it would look nice above the cabs and around the window. it's one of the colors in that floor tile Here's Kendall Charcoal with white and a very light gray. Or, try Revere Pewter or Chelsea if Kendall is too dark. the key is to get one of those warmer gray colors from the flooring or the counter, and use it for contrast above the cabs. how about a warmer gray glass tile? try some knobs like these

I agree with jck910. I wouldn't put board and batten, shiplap and brick veneer together in the same visual space.

You can elements that individually are great ideas, but when all thrown into the same space it is too much. I'd choose one or the other of the shiplap or the accent wall (and for me it would be keep the accent wall and ditch the shiplap, but I got a bit sick of shiplap during the Modern Farmhouse trend).

Imo, you don't need an accent wall there with open views lengthwise [and it's not a separate room that 'needs' something special].

Idk what color variation between backsplash and island, but it might be ok to just remove the mirror... add roman shades.. ?

I'd keep your dark pennisula and the current backsplash. White brick as a back splash would be a cleaning nightmare, and not look as nice with your cabinets. The vertical shiplap will look odd with your flooring running the same direction. Just add your wall design to the dining area. You could keep it the same color as your wall, or paint it the color of your current back splash.

Another vote to leave the backsplash. Add the wall treatment to the dining area but in the same wall color. If you’re getting all new,doors for the kitchen wait on fussing with the peninsula. The new doors will change the whole look of that area.

I have to redo the backsplash cause of where it ends and to cover an empty electrical box. The cabinet on the left wall of the picture is getting removed, but the space is going to be left empty or open shelving to let light in from that window. The house doesnt get very good natural light past noon and the cabinet is hard to reach without climbing onto a chair lol.

For those saying no to vertical shiplap on the peninsula, Im not set on it either. Previous owners heavily damaged whats there now. Covering it felt easier than riping it out cause the countertops are glued down to parts of it. Maybe adding a thin panel to the front is the way to go?

The back splash is fine. It would look odd to endthe tile at the end of the countertop in the middle of the light switch also. If you don't need the phone outlet, put a solid cover over it and paint it the same color as the tiles. You can just remove the cabinet if you don't want it. If the back of the pennisula needs something, you can do the same or similar design that you're thinking of for the dining room wall, but keep the color dark, which looks nice.

If you want an accent wall you can definitely do one, we just suggest coordinating the peninsula with the accent wall and not doing two separate things.
