If you look at the warranty inforamtion on the manufacturer websites you will see the difference in how Zodiac treats the issue of resin pooling in contrast to Cambria. Zodiac states no spot will be more than the size of a quarter, I believe, and all spots must be confined to no more than a quarter of the slab for the slab to be considered first quality. Cambria's warranty states "color blotches are intended and designed into many colors to enhance the natural beauty...product will not be replaced due to these variations." Silestone does not address blotches at all in its warranty but does say color variances are not covered. I don't know if they would consider the splotches a color variance but I really have not heard of problems with this type of thing with Silestone, either. I think Cambria just decided they didn't want to deal with trying to solve the problem and so just "designed it in". Zodiac went the other way, and is trying to limit the problem, but can't guarantee there won't be any at all. So, if you like the blotches, go with Cambria, if you don't either be sure to view the slab first or don't go with Cambria, and make sure to check the warranty for this issue with whatever company you go with. I hope my Zodiac installation goes well on Monday. Sue

I agree with jerzeegirl and those counseling contacting a lawyer; this fabricator, his employees and probably your GC are sending you a message . Have you been taking the lead on this with little support from your partner? Some men have women issues; the construction trades tend to be a man's world for the most part. You may be the victim of misogyny; how dare a women make demands of the menfolk and demand the competence she PAID for; this could very well be about power and control. It may be time for you to consider that your GC is playing that game too. My DH will accept the shoddiest job because he "buddies-up" the workers, and then does not want to be a "jerk" by making waves about a poorly done job. I was in tears this weekend over custom bathroom cabinets...vanity not centered in the alcove, not tight to the walls by 5/8 of an inch, and interior/exterior face frame edges gouged in multiple places...some an inch long. I am not sure what frustrated me more...the quality of the job or DH's attitude. He was angry that I "embarrassed him" by contacting the designer employed by the cabinet shop about my issues. I want answers and the shop to make it acceptable. I also called him on the fact that he is more than willing to blame me to workers when he is unhappy with something instead of owning it himself. When we began this remodel, I kept telling myself it was okay as long as issues were resolved, but it still stuck in my "craw." I am not okay with it anymore; I was allowing him to perpetuate the stereotype of woman = b - - ch while he gets to be a good ol'boy. It is long past time to have a confrontation with your GC! Write down EVERYTHING (mistakes, errors, incurred costs, probable sabotage, etc.), bring any legal paperwork, and then buy 30 minutes of a lawyer's time to find out your legal recourse and options. Go to the contractor meeting with your partner armed with the information gained from the lawyer. Then if the GC feels no responsibility to help deal with fabricator (and others?), meet with them next. Enough is enough!

Well, looked at Corian yesterday, some were good, but learned it can scratch easier than quartz. So, today, I narrowed down to 3 whites. Vicostone "Pure White", MetroQuartz '"Absolute White" and Silestone "Iconic White" in Suede N-boost finish, since the polished is too white. They all look good with the new cabinets. Fabricator/company where I'm purchasing from said, they are all very similar in quality and manufacturing. They feel however, that Silestone Brand is a small step above the other 2 brands. Well, the MetroQuartz, which I had never heard of, matches perfectly with the high gloss acrylic cabinets, and the Silestone came in lots more $$$. Is MetroQuartz a good choice and trusted brand? I also like the Vicostone. How do I decide?

GC agrees and is fantastic - I use them on every project. My post was to get some objective viewpoints because after looking at it for a week straight, I've lost perspective on the two options. Faced with an option to just "accept it and move on" as live_wire stated is appealing on one hand because we are several weeks behind schedule (COVID supply chain issues) and without even basic use of the kitchen for 10 weeks now - so the thought of just plowing forward and getting this done is enticing. However, we did pay a premium for an upgraded feature from a reputable and experienced fabricator...having to look at something that is "a solid B" when that isn't what we paid for nor were promised, and doesn't match the quality of the rest of the project will probably irk me to see each time we walk into the kitchen. Again, was looking for some perspective on if this is acceptable or poor from professionals or people with more experience with mitered edges than myself. The chastizing over the inherent pitfalls of renovation and "overdone fad features" really is just white noise - this isn't my first or even 10th reno, but I'm also not a stone fabricator. But then again, who doesn't enjoy armchair quarterbacking other peoples' projects from behind a keyboard? 🙂
