Comments (1)Hancock fabrics, Joanns (they show 3 on their website), likely Hobby Lobby, they seem to be pretty commonly available nowadays. Make sure it will accommodate your type of bobbin, I've heard some people say their bobbins don't fit. If you can get a coupon and have a retailer nearby you'll save some $$. Good luck. Comments (6)My late MIL had an old black Kenmore - she had a buttonhole attachment that came with hers and it worked like a charm. Call a sewing repair centre and have your model number ready and inquire if they can order you an attachment OR ask if they have a generic one that would fit (take the machine with you and get them to show you how it would work when you go pick it up). Check local thrift shops and see what they have..sometimes you can find exactly what you need for little cost. This means you would have to know if your machine is long or short shank....if you had another attachment like a zipper foot, you could hold it against the buttonholer and see if the shank is the same and screw is on the same side. I would definately call some repair places and get some prices or ask about old machine parts - some trade in machines are stripped of parts and attachments and you can get some great bargains. If you have a manual it should show you what the attachment for your machine looks like at least. I think if you need it soon, generic maybe the way to go. Comments (4)I just had a similar problem w/ my Brother machine. The fork that goes over the needle screw kept popping off. I asked the lady at my repair shop if she had any idea what was wrong with it, and she'd never heard of it. She sold me a new foot (huge bargain - they were getting ready to move!) and it did the same thing. A couple of weeks later I decided to try again to figure out what was wrong. This time I looked CLOSELY at the picture in the manual, and actually READ the directions (skipped those important steps earlier LOL!) and I was putting the screw in the wrong side! The foot was hitting the screw that was in the wrong place. Donna...See MoreHelp with old Kenmore machine
Comments (5)No need to post a picture. I was only looking for a stitch length dial and you answered my question. If the dial only goes to 5 and that's short stitches and the 1 is tiny stitches then there is no way you can do gathering stitches on that machine. The stitch length dial is the only way you can adjust the length of your stitches. There is either somethbing wrong and the dial is not putting in the right stitches or it never had that capability in the first place--unless the tension is faulty. Does it make proper stitches --The top and bottom thread meeting in the middle of the fabric--or are they pulled tight. If they are too tight then loosen the upper thread tension a bit and see if that helps...See MoreCourtney Doucet
