Jeri-I included a picture of the whole plant taken last week. It does have thors but they are relatively small. The rose was planted no later than 2008 but no sooner than the mid 1970s. My guess would be the 90s, sorry that is such a vague time. I know which owner planted it but they owned the house for many decades. When we bought the house, the rose hasn't been maintained for many years and it was probably around 20ft long (laying on the ground). The color does not look like Dr. Huey to me but I'll wait for it to fully open to see if it has that Dr. Huey center.

Yasitha, I am admiring your roses, particularly the dark, velvety one. It looks like some stripes are emerging on one petal. It reminds me of some rare stripe roses that are sports and often revert to the non-striped form. The blooms on these roses are usually pretty small. Take a look at HMF (Help Me Find Roses) search for striped roses. Check out Simsalabim (hope I've spelled that correctly). Another neat one is Memphis Music. The strongest support given by Sheila and me that it is Red Fountain is further supported by the tag! Another thing is that Red Fountain is a cluster bloomer while climbing Don Juan is a climbing hybrid tea rose. The proof positive will unfold in due time, and as Sheila said young roses take time to show their true habits. Climbers are particularly slow in this aspect. Moses

Thank you to everyone for chiming in. I did consider Bathsheba also but this rose has sturdy, compact canes that bloom with a single rose at the end. It doesn’t grow like a climber. My Bathsheba is a vigorous grower with thinner canes and often more than one bloom at the tip. Gentle Hermione is one I hadn’t considered. After looking at pictures, I won’t rule it out but the bloom form does appear different. Thanks again! I did come across one Austin by chance that looked more similar but it’s rare in the US. Does anyone have experience/pictures of Troilus? I happened across it being offered and when I looked at the pictures on HMF they appeared close.
