Thoughts on Verona 36' Double Oven Gas Range
Comments (29)We have had the Verona 36 inch double oven with 5 gas burners for a few years now. I really like the option of having 2 ovens and while I don't always use both, it is really handy when you need it. I have not had issues with food not fitting in the smaller sized oven (or maybe I am used to compensating for it). Pros are that I like the way it looks and its compact design. I like the different options to use regular bake, convection, etc. Some cons: I had to buy new pans that will fit into the smaller ovens (not a big deal but just something to think about). By far the most annoying thing with the ovens is their preheat time. I used to have a GE that probably took 5-10 minutes? This thing takes about 20 minutes to preheat. Its very very annoying and I find I have to plan around this preheat time all the time. Same with broiling. You may spend 20 minutes to get the broil up to temp and only 5 minutes broiling. If it had to do it all over again I might actually go for the GE just to get over this preheat issue....See More36' Induction Cooktop w/ oven beneath OR a gas range? OR what???
Comments (9)Babs, I share your frustration! I have a Maytag Gemini and use both ovens frequently and also love having the option of using a smaller oven to save energy. I am also planning on a 36" induction cooktop but am having trouble figuring out how to fit double ovens in my smallish kitchen. I wish there was a reasonably priced 36" induction range. (I'm currently drooling over that 36" Diva, but when it says to call for pricing I know that means it's out of my price range.) Here are some of the options I've come up with; maybe one of them will help you. (BTW, I have no idea which one I'm going to use, but I don't think we'll be doing our reno for a couple of years due to finances.) 1) Put in 1 standard built-in oven either under the cooktop or on refrig wall. For second oven, use Breville oven. Problem with this is the Breville can't be built-in and I really don't want it on the counter (I would get the bigger one). If this could be built-in below a counter, I think this would be the perfect economical option. 2) Second oven would be a speed oven of some sort (Electrolux, Miele, Advantium, etc.). This is a significantly more expensive option than #1, but it would be built-in which is a plus. In order to do this one, I would have to move the doorway to my dining room so I could take advantage of about 2 more feet of wall space. If you put your main oven below your cooktop, maybe you could fit a speed oven under the counter somewhere else in your kitchen. #3. Sharp SuperSteam Oven. It can be on counter or built-in. It's a steam, convection, and MW. I was thinking I could put this on a shelf over my counter. I think there may be 36" Induction ranges available in a few years, but that doesn't help anyone doing their reno now. It's hard to work 2 ovens into a small kitchen, but it can be done. It suddenly occurred to me about a month ago that if I moved the doorway to my dining room, I'd get rid of a blind corner and gain about 2 feet of wall space which might, just might, give me enough space to fit stacked double ovens. Good luck, and I hope I've helped!...See MoreIs a gas oven/range better for resale value than electric?
Comments (45)I have had gas and electric ranges over the years, but for the last 30+ I have cooked on electric until I moved and our new condo had a gas range. Everyone was all agog over it and told me I would LOVE the gas range that it was so much better than electric. For the last 20 years before our move, I cooked on smooth top electric ranges and loved them! But everyone kept telling me gas was better. Turns out, I DO NOT love the gas range. It doesn't boil water as fast as my electric one did and seems to take forever to preheat the oven. And I've had a hard time adjusting to the fact that if I don't use hot pads to remove my pans off the stove top, I'll burn my hands. And don't leave your stirring spoon in the pot for more than a second if you don't want to burn off a finger or two. My cookies don't rise -and they're either not done enough or too done, can't get it just right like before. AND the worst part is cleaning it! That's the main reason I switched to a smooth top all those years ago - they take a little getting used to the different cleaning method, but when you learn the tricks, they're a breeze compared to the old coil or this gas behemoth! It takes me a good hour to clean around all the burners and try to be careful not to get cleaner or food down those little slots around the sides. And even using a degreaser detergent, it still looks greasy after going over it several times. Give me my smooth top back! . . . where I can just scrap off the burnt on food with a razor blade - or if there isn't anything burnt on, I can just wipe on a little cleaner and polish it off with a paper towel. When wiping down the countertops with a little dish soap, I can include the stovetop and keep it sparkling clean on a daily basis. I have severe arthritis in my hands and moving those heavy grates off the top and then the cleaning around all the little places is just a little too much for me (not to mention getting gunk off the grates). That is why, after 2 1/2 years of trying to get used to it, I have decided to replace my gas range with a brand new smooth top electric range. People tell me I must be CRAZY because I'm the only person they know who prefers electric over gas. The only thing I will miss is turning off the heat immediately when something boils over. So I will have to get used to moving the pan off again. But it's worth it to me to clean up a boil over on the smooth top vs. the gas burner-cover-slots thing. AND I'll have my wonderful convection oven back and maybe my cookies too!...See MoreNew gas range and oven recommendations
Comments (36)Kevin bought the red Bertazzoni this week, and it will be installed in the next couple of weeks. Last week he bought a new refrigerator because our ice maker broke down, and we both decided that we did not like the old SxS fridge that we got when we bought the house six years ago. June 10 was our 6th anniversary! Here's how the new fridge (delivered today) looks with the old range: I will post a new photo in a couple of weeks to show the new red range! We have also decided to have a party approximately July 10 - Kevin has to go to Wisconsin the following week-end, and we thought that we could use the 4th of July week-end to get ready. So if you are in L.A. and want to come, let me know! We really like the new fridge but have not loaded it yet. All of our food fit into the garage refrigerator and freezer, and I will be careful about what I choose to put in the new one. At least the food will now be more accessible. I especially like the middle drawer for cheese/cold cuts. I will be able to store my lunchables there. I was a bit concerned with how the red range would look with our cabinets and tile floor, but after we got the red KA mixer, I decided that it would be fine. The color of the floor is more orange in person than in the photo - it is not pink at all. Kevin ordered a stainless steel back splash to go between the range and the MW, and it will be delivered next week. After we install that, the range can be delivered, as it was in stock in SoCal, and is available for delivery next week....See MoreM Gas
