New plants, need help?

I recieved a large variety of cuttings in the mail about 3 weeks ago.

I am relatively new to indoor plants.

After opening the cuttings, i immediately stuck them in my bathroom that has a small east facing window on the counter about 4 ft away. I plac ed them back in water propagation jars with rain water. All of their roots were long enough to be planted, so after giving them a week to recover i went aheadand planted them in well draining soil.I bought a shelf that lets them be closer to the window, so they are now about two feet away and to the side of the window. The leaves on some of them are curling downwards and not looking too hot. I will include pictures. This is the bathroom we shower in, so there is a lot of humidity. I’ve been giving the plants a little sip of water every other day or so because i read that is the best way to do it for a little while until they are used to the soil.

There are a few prayer plants, some pothos, and some philodendron. Oh and the Monstera Adansonii leaf will not unfurl.

please help. i just want them to grow and be beautiful.

Also wanted to add that I received several types of Peperomia as well but they are all doing great. Should this maybe be a sign im giving the others too much light?

I don't know for sure what's causing the problem, but I do think you're over watering these plants. What did you plant these in ? They should have been planted in regular potting soil for potted plants. After planting, they should have been watered in gently and left alone until the soil dried out. It sounds like you're drowning them by watering them every other day. Where you have them located sounds fine, because they need bright, indirect light. Don't ever put these plants in direct sunlight. Make sure all of the containers have drainage holes and don't let the pots sit in water. I'm concerned about the plant in the last picture - does that container have drainage holes ?

You need to post more photos. It looks like maybe you could take out the grass growing in the bed next to the house on right side. A lot of people dislike 'meatball' shrubs but they don't bother me. I am not a fan of the center island. I would remove it and have grass there. Yes, I see there is a light there but it could be mowed around. Do you know the names of any of the plants? What USDA zone are you in?

1. Have no clue, but it's pretty. Looks a bit like Crassula hemisphaerica. If I could give a little advice because plants that lie flat like that are easy to kill. Put more soil in the pot plant higher up in the pot. If there's a way you could put rocks underneath the leaves or plants sideways. This is so air can pass through. Moisture can't evaporate:). Just a couple friendly suggestions because I've killed a many Aeonium tabuleforme which is a very flat plant. 2. Gymnocalycium has some similarities with G. denutatum, but I don't think that's it. Take a pic when it blooms;). 3. Agavoides 4. Maybe Pachyveria or Pachyphytum. It's pretty small, but maybe somebody else can id. 5. Aeonium 'Mardi Gras'. I love this plant:)

I mis-spelled it....sorry. It's Dracaena! Your plant looks like it's doing fine. It was probably time for a re plant and I have never trimmed roots on any of the different Dracaenas I grow.

@woodrose, i followed a soil recipe similar to what is recommended by Harli G (on youtube) for houseplants.

I have a moisture meter and I’m giving them so little water every other day, that by the time I give them more water, their moisture reading is around a 2, so very dry. It does make sense that I should have instead just given them a good drink the first day.

I’m glad you think the lighting will probably be okay. I was scared it might be too little. It seems so dark in there.

All of the containers have drainage holes.

no plant needs water every day or two ... let them NEAR DRY between waterings ...

your plants are stressed ... they were rooted... potted.. shipped.. you bare rooted them.. put them in water..[ they are not aquatics ]... and then you repotted them .. and now you wonder why they look stressed ...

feel the weight of the pot.. and dont water them again until the pot feels very light... in other words.. the moisture in the media is gone... then water them properly ...

they are stressed.. not hungry.. fert is not a response ...

on some level.. you may be loving them too much ... benign neglects might be better ...

humidity is not a variable you need to worry about.. if you have a better window in another room.. they will be just as happy there as here .. they do not need to be in the bathroom ... when your skin is so dry in your house.. that you bleed when you scratch.. then you MIGHT have a humidity problem in your house.. and just about nothing short of that is a problem ...

ps: no comment about your media from some unlinked source that most of us never heard of ... if you water.. and excess runs out the bottom.. its good enough ...

These plants were cuttings. The person who shipped them rooted them in water, and shipped them to me without them having ever been in soil before. I stuck them in water for a week so that they could maybe start recovering from their shipment. Maybe i should have left them in the water longer to recover? not sure. As the roots were long enough to be potted, i went ahead and did that.

I realize now i shouldnt have been watering them every other day, but i will say their soil is dry more than two inches down, even now. That’s how little water I was giving them every other day. I was following the most popular recommendation for transferring water rooted cuttings into soil.

Your comment about humidity is interesting...

Harli G is a famous houseplant youtuber with over 300+ beautiful houseplants. (: Her channel is so popular she gets paid just to make videos on how she has such awesome plants.

ETA:

I also realize they are going through shock, but I wasn’t sure how long shock could/would last.

My prayer plant loves humidity and if the soil dries out to much it starts to get droopy. I would definitely start by checking the soil. Put your finger down into the soil as far as you can. if the soil feels dry then that plant needs a good drink. Since your only giving them a little bit of water at a time they might not be getting enough. Hope this helps!!! :)

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the "giving a little bit of water" either unless they are cuttings where the soil needs to stay evenly damp for a while or ferns! For the rest of my houseplants, I water them all the way through. I take them to the sink or put them in a bowl or whatever, water until water comes out the bottom. Let them sit in the water for about 10 minutes, then pour of the excess and return the plant to its location.

To be honest, none of these plants look that bad to me. Even the maranta looks ok. Maybe you are worrying too much. I honestly don't see anything wrong. As far as the leaf on the adansonii, they can take a month to completely unfurl.

thank you for commenting! I too thought maybe I was overreacting, but was concerned about the leaf curling & such. I’ll stop the little sips of water now.

A good way to obsess but gently moisten the soil is to mist with a squirt bottle, 25 times or however long it takes for some drips to come out of the drain holes. This can prevent compacting the soil but still get it well saturated, giving new roots a loose moist soil to get going into.
