Moen vs Kohler?

I have narrowed my faucet choices down to these two -

Kohler artifacts in oil rubbed bronze

Moen Paterson in matte black

Looking for opinions/reviews on the following -

Touchless - worth it or not? Moen looks to run on batteries, Kohler plugs in. It sounds like a great feature, but I'm not sure.

Kohler - how does their oil rubbed bronze finish hold up? I really wish it came in matte black because my decision would probably be easier.

Overall opinion on one brand over the other?

I think both faucets are absolutely beautiful and will be perfect in our kitchen. I do prefer the design and color of the Moen, but I prefer the touchless and spray features of the Kohler.

I cannot speak for those faucets but I have to say that Moen’s warranty is INCREDIBLE! I have called them for my Moen U shower units and because I misplaced 1 part on my soap dispenser during my kitchen redo. Everything was covered, no expense included shipping. Possibly Koehler is the same, not sure. ?? I’ve had lousy luck with their toilets so I’d be hesitant to go with them.

Hello. The Moen has an optional AC adapter you can order (part number 169031), so it can be plugged in. The Moen has its sensor on top of its spout, where the Kohler activates by tapping the spout or handle. I own a Brizo, which activates just like Kohler. I got used to getting my arm out of the way when I clean my countertops and around the Brizo, because tapping it turns the water on. A wet wrist is no big deal, ha-ha. Some people feel the Moen top sensor is good because you need to wave over the sensor, which is at the top of the spout. Personally, when my hands are dripping with chicken juice (or other messy cooking hazards) I prefer tapping my faucet anywhere and not waving around. All these years previous I owned a standard faucet; I will never go back to standard operating faucet. Matter of fact, as soon as available, I will replace all my bathroom faucets with touch/sensor, too. It is so convenient and clean. If you purchase your new faucet from a showroom or a plumbing supplier, not a 'big box' store or online, it is my understanding the cartridges, finishes and other components are way superior from a showroom. The cost is more because the quality is there. Plus, what is an extra $50 cost when you have peace of mind and knowing you bought a great faucet? Happy shopping!

We bought a new construction house in 2008 that has all Newport Brass fixtures and decorations. - 5 bathrooms, a three sink kitchen, and 2 wet bars. And I mean it is all Newport Brass - sink handles and faucets, towel bars, toilet bowl handles, etc. And here is what has broken, starting in less than one year: bathroom tub diverter handle, kitchen sink mixer cartridge, shower head, bathroom sink faucet connector, another shower head, shower temperature mixer valve, and another bathroom sink faucet connector! The parts are insanely expensive to replace, it is difficult to make sure that you have the correct model, and even harder to make sure you have the correct finish. The most frustrating thing (and why I am writing this up) is because one of the broken bathroom faucets is now discountinued, and I am stuck with the a bathroom that has a dozen plus Newport Brass installations that I will not be able to match. Ever! The "help" that I have received from Customer Service is a joke. They cant help identify part numbers or finishes, and dont seem particularly interested in the fact that there stuff keeps breaking. I have taken to proactively switching out parts, especially shower heads, with stuff on Amazon and which I feel is better quality and much, much cheaper. Do not dare install this overpriced garbage in your house!

annz that is an excellent point, really good point about the model numbers or faucetdirect etc. I buy all kinds of things from ebay, but seem to be hung up about buying things for the house we are building from ebay. But the difference in price from the plumber who is giving us 25% off and the ebay, etc. prices is huge. I will make my first purchase and let you know how great I feel once it is done. Thanks a lot.

I actually called Kohler a few weeks back because I wanted the Wellworth toilet. It was available in some kind of "package" deal with a seat and wax ring at Lowes and Home Depot for around $130 or from the plumbing supply place without a seat for over $200. I called Kohler to ask if there was any difference between the model numbers and they told me no. For the Wellworth, at least, the only difference was that the pro pack was a special package that included the seat and wax ring and sold only through big box stores and that since they dealt in such volume, the price was lower. They told me the toilet itself was exactly the same. It may differ depending on the model though....but I would call Kohler, give them both model numbers, and see what they say. In my experience, the customer service numbers at almost all the major plumbing manufacturers are very helpful (I've called them all, multiple times!)

Thaks, all. Appreciate the sympathy, too. A couple of factors here. Builder needs the shower valves ASAP so that means choosing a brand and features we want (temp and volume controls). The lowest-end ones all obviously have temp control (posi-temp valve in Moen-speak; single-function valve in Delta-speak) but I also want to control the volume (Moen’s older Moentrol, newer M-core; Delta’s dual function valve). I never figured out what Koehler calls their variations. We can choose and change the trims later. Cost is a bit of a factor. We tend to be practical people, function over appearance, but it’s a high-end home and the builder won’t install big-box quality appliances. We’re seriously over budget in the kitchen, and due to structure, we’re now a couple of thousand over budget for the tub. ((sigh)). And I’m now unemployed, so we need to be somewhat careful. I don’t like any Kohler shower head twice as much as a decent Delta. I’m trying to figure out how a Thermador wall oven is $2400 better than the KitchenAid like the one we have right now that we love, but that’s another thread. The finishes are making me crazy. We ended up getting Delta shower packages from faucet.com in stainless steel for several reasons. (One is that the Lahara line has a bunch of the really cool extra fixtures that incorporate grab bars, such as a toilet paper holder/grab bar - one of the bathrooms is fully ADA wheelchair accessible). I hoped polished nickel would be the closest to stainless but the showroom designer said brushed nickel is closer. I always think the brushed nickel looks olive-tinted. And I hate chrome - looks too plastic to me. Thank goodness I had a white option for the tub drain. Ugh. Does anybody know if Hansgrohe has the lifetime warranty? We have Moen in our current home and have used the warranty many times because our water is so hard.

We do not have either. IMO, it’s another part to break. We have a faucet with the water control on the side. So, when my hands are dripping in raw meat juice or egg, all I have to do is use the back of my hand to turn it on. Works like a charm.

That being said, we have a Moen faucet in our vacation home. The first one was installed and turned out to be faulty. Getting a replacement was a breeze.
