kohler expanse curved apron tub vs kohler bellwether tub
Comments (2)Don't know about the bellwether, but I'm impressed with the Expanse, which helps take the constricted feel from a usual 5' inset tub... it really opens up space for a roomier soaking-tub experience whilst retaining the existing 5' x 32" enclave, expanding to a 38" width only at the center. It's also nice and deep. Good tub....See Morekohler archer airbath, kohler tea for 2 soaking, or toto 1550?
Comments (22)marie-louise, after agonizing over the decision for months, and having as recently as last week been sure that I would order cast iron, I am about to order the Archer (soaker; no jets) tomorrow. You are lucky to have a place like Tubz. I have dragged around to more than half a dozen bath showrooms, and each had only a few tubs for me to try. I tried the Archer on Friday, and went back and tried it again on Saturday. It is, as you say, very very comfortable. I have found that I don't usually like lumbar support (strange lump at bottom of tub slope), and the reason I went back was that I saw the drawings and noticed the lumbar support. I went back to make sure that it was comfortable. Somehow the lumbar support doesn't bother me, maybe because it is minimal. For those who are wondering, I am 5'8" tall, and my feet don't quite meet the end of the 5' long Archer. The width is something like 32" and that is plenty for me (and I am not, alas, thin!) I was, at one point, on the brink of ordering a 24" deep tub. Then I learned how difficult it is to get in and out of. The Archer is a good compromise - the high overflow slit means that it fills up more, so you get a good DTO with a low tub height. It is also very inexpensive - I was quoted under $300 for 5' long. Oh, and I somehow became sold on acrylic in the last week - a combination of reading posts here, looking at the tubs, and learning from salespeople. Hope your reno goes well, marie-louise. My contractor started Friday, and demolition is almost done....See MoreKohler bellwether VS Kohler Villager
Comments (19)Enduring - Does your Bellwether have a smooth finish or is it very wavy? From what I can tell in your pictures, all of the shiny parts in your tub look very smooth (I'm looking specifically at the first picture in your 12/14/13 8:47am post). Looking at the reflection off of the corners and faces of the tub, it doesn't look like there is distortion in the finish? I'm asking because we have purchased a Bellwether and it's waiting for us at Home Depot. We've been by to pick it up but left it there because we weren't sure about the finish. We saw a Villager tub at HD (they carry the Villager in-store, but the Bellwether is special order only) and it had such an odd finish. Like giant orange peel. Perfectly imperfect and very strange looking. Like they hadn't waited long enough for the enamel (or whatever the white stuff is called) to settle before it set. The finish of the Bellwether they've got for us is a bit better but still quite odd. Now, I'm not looking for a perfect finish - I'm after the vintage, been there forever kind of look, and I absolutely love the way yours looks. But I'm worried about putting this tub next to smooth subway and porcelain hex tiles and having it look wavy and strange. I've attached a photo. The lighting at HD isn't great, but I think you can see where the finish is uneven by looking where the light is reflecting vs. not - it's splotchy rather than an even transition between reflection and no reflection. Does yours do that? Your pictures sure don't look like it but it's hard to tell. Thank you so much for your time! I really want to be able to use this tub as the price and look are right. And it's one of the only CI 30x60 tubs on the market - we really don't have the extra 2" for a 32" tub, so I want to make this work, but I'm not sure if I'm being too picky....See MoreAmerican Standard vs. Kohler vs. Toto for low tank toilet
Comments (14)We have moved around quite a bit for work. We are getting ready to start building our 8th home and have lived in 3 others. Our last 2 homes, because of location norms and resale, we opted for higher end finishes. We installed Toto toilets and were very disappointed. They were noisy and, while they looked nice, we are putting in Kohler due to reliability, functionality and they stand behind their products. A few years ago we had a problem with a chrome sink faucet that appeared to be tarnishing. This was in one of the 3 homes we did not build ourselves. Kohler mailed us a replacement without any issues. They are not the top end but we plan to get as much Kohler brand in our retirement home as we can find that fit s our needs....See Moresilken1
