kohler expanse curved apron tub vs kohler bellwether tub
Comments (2)Don't know about the bellwether, but I'm impressed with the Expanse, which helps take the constricted feel from a usual 5' inset tub... it really opens up space for a roomier soaking-tub experience whilst retaining the existing 5' x 32" enclave, expanding to a 38" width only at the center. It's also nice and deep. Good tub....See MoreKohler Mendota or bellwether tub
Comments (1)You must be talking about the Bellwether 837 which is 60x30. It is the one I have. The Mendota, I'm not sure about as I had taken it off my list for some reason or other. The other Bellwether 875 is 60x32. But because of the slanted front it is very short bottomed and people have complained about this fact. Also complained about the need for an extra long spout as the drain hole is 12" from front end to drain, instead of the typical 9". The Bellwether 837 is more of a standard type tub. Not as tall as the 875, instead it is like the Villager. My tub is a bit narrow, but I have been taking a bath in it daily for many months as I am remodeling my other bathroom. It has been fine. I would not want it as my soaking tub if I wanted one. The reason I put it in is because I want the utility of having a tub in the bathroom that it is located. I liked the long bottom at almost 49" I think, the very tidy styling, and the shallow water fill at 9". I needed to keep a tub in the house for grandkids and the family needs. I think it would be a great looking shower/tub combo. The plumber liked the straight inside sides, as a safety feature when stepping into the tub. Comments (12)People have liked their Toto toilets. Toto doesn't have that minimalist look that the Bellwether has IIRC. I have cast Iron Bellwether 30x60 and it has been a great tub for a lower tub, like the villager. Good one for shower/tub combo, or bathing kids and pets. You are looking at the original Bellwether. Did you know that it has a very short bottom? It also has a significant slant to the front end at the spout and requires a longer spout, to clear the slope as the water falls to the drain. That was a complaint by some in the years past. The Bellwether I have is a standard install, where the one you are looking at needs the drain placed specific to the tub, as it is not your standard placement from the alcove wall. Check the specs and compare those with a standard install such as the Memoirs, which I believe is more standard plumbing placement....See MoreKohler cast iron vs Solid Surface showers? Or other new materials?
Comments (20)@wdccruise I didn't mean they were comparable nor was I criticizing cast iron shower pans - I've had cast iron bathtubs and kitchen sinks and I love the material, so I'm heavily leaning toward that choice. The shower will be replacing a large soaking tub that we never use, so I'm basically starting with a blank slate and trying to decide which way to go. Curbless is nice and we are an older couple so designing for the future makes sense. The designer is strongly recommending a tiled shower pan but I detest grout, especially when there's so much of it in mosaic tile installations. Lots to think about before making a big expense......See Moreazmom
