Cast iron vs swan stone vs silestone shower pan
Comments (10)I'm laughing at the idea that a shower is going to last 40 years and not need a remodel. And I'm surprised to hear that cast iron would need to be refinished. Maybe I'm naive? Anyway - how high end is this remodel? I have Swanstone for going on 20 years and it has held up perfectly, but I really want to replace it with something less functional and more attractive. Mine is Almond Galaxy - not a solid, but it still looks like plastic. Not nearly as nice as the walls which have a matte finish (also still looking great). I can't comment on Silestone - I actually didn't know they made a shower pan. But I'll bet its expensive. Why not use tile?...See MoreSilgranit vs. Kohler cast iron Smart Divide
Comments (38)We put in the kohler cast iron sink in our last house and I loved it .We had heavy minerals in our water that stained everything and bonami keep that sink looking new. The down side is its a very hard serface so I broke a few things before I got used to it. The other real negative was the weight of the sink its self . The sink that was in the house was horribly stained so we replaced it withen weeks of buying the house and before we redid the total kitchen a year later. The sink was so heavy it cracked the counter top and the frame of the cabinet. We replaced it with a really heavy duty cabinet when we redid the kitchen and it held up really well. I choose kohler cast iron for the bathtub we put in last month because of my good experance with the kohler kitchen sink....See MoreHow do you feel about solid surface (Corian) shower walls vs tile?
Comments (117)Hi, anyone from Vancouver Canada? I have been trying to find a source for a Corian solid surface shower pan but am having a difficult time finding one. I've called a few bathroom supply stores and went to a few Home Depot and they only have the ugly acrylic ones and only in white, Corian.com does not even mention this type of product so why is that? If it's such a great product why wouldn't they advertise it?...See MoreKohler Cast Iron Shower Bases - Experience with Drilling to Set Glass?
Comments (12)Drilling through porcelainized cast iron? I use an angle grinder or something similar to first abrade/cut through the porcelain. The tool and the cutting edge depends on the surface orientation; flat, inside corner, outside corner, etc. It's a personal preferance to not drill directly upon the porcelain surface. There is no cracking/chipping/flaking of the porcelain, it simply abrades it away. Then drill through the cast iron. Hit the bare metal with epoxy or primer to seal the metal. Prevents potential rust down the road. Then attach clip. Again, a personal preference....See MoreMittens Cat
