Should I Spend the Extra $$$ for Cast Iron Kohler Tub?
Comments (5)I am so sorry I bought an Americast kitchen sink. I chose it because, yes, it was cheaper, but also it was the shape I wanted. Now the enamel is wearing off -- dulling -- and I have had to repair two chips. (Ten years; two-person household.) My Kohler prep sink looks brand new. I have an airjet tub in the master bath. It has a heater to keep the water warm, but if you like long soaks I'd go for the Kohler. Is the Mendota the right size for you? I like the fast fill for my smaller airjet tub and I don't slide down to 'drown' in it. It's an Ultra Bain....See MoreKohler Cast Iron Tubs? Acrylic Tub? Americast?
Comments (13)My acrylic Bain Ultra air tub was set in a bed of mud with a piece of think plastic between the mud and tub. This was done for the ease of removing the tub if ever the need arises. It's as solid feeling on the bottom as my husband's Kohler cast iron tub. As for cleaning, that's a different story. You're not supposed to use anything abrasive on acrylic. Believe it or not, Scrubbing Bubbles is considered abrasive :( That's been my go to tub cleaner for years. To clean my acrylic tub RIGHT, I use Gel Gloss. It's a pain (literally!). You spray it on, let it sit, buff it and let it dry and then wipe the residue. When I'm in a pinch for time or physically limited, I will use Scrubbing Bubbles. There are very few non abrasive cleaners out there. One Bain Ultra suggested was Lemon scent Lysol. NOTHING works better than Scrubbing Bubbles!...See MoreTub Help - freestanding tub cast iron soaker or acrylic with hydro?
Comments (3)I had an acrylic pedestal tub in my last home, it was beautiful but it did not retain heat as long as I would like. Also it had to be reinstalled and I think they put some type of foam/cement in the base and then it did not budge at all. I also need to make a decision on a tub in the next two weeks and I will likely go with a pedestal acrastone tub ( American Bath Factory Nob Hill) . My first choice would be a victoria albert elwick if I had the space, I need 60" and I can not find a pedestal style I like in a 60" length with this company. Please post what you decide to go with....See MoreKohler tub cast iron showing through
Comments (5)Thank you. I really feel that a bad batch was made with thin porcelain. I think the cast iron is showing through the porcelain coating. I plan on contacting Kohler!...See Morenanj
