The couple clients I had who did lots of shutters (their choice) never open the shutters, they only move the louvers. I didn't find the houses particularly dark if the louvers were directed to allow light in. I think removing them depends on what you need there for light control or privacy, what you need for view modulation, etc. I'll bet the previous owner installed this sort that do not fold up because they never opened them. From what I can tell the view doesn't look like it's anything interesting which may be why they chose them. That's not meant to be insulting. Most people's views are kinda ordinary if it's a yard and a fence.

Thanks for the comments so far! The room was originally a sleeping porch I believe which is why it has concrete floors with a pattern in them. I'm attaching a rough layout someone made of the first floor. The green line shows the approx original outside wall of the house. The grotto was added on and hopefully will come off in the next few years to restore the original first floor layout. And here is a picture of the adjacent formal dining room.

I would try angling the sofa so the it is in front of the angled portion of the floor. Then bring in some chairs with table in between. These would sit inward toward the sofa not against the back wall. You may have room for a chair on the other side of the tv. It would help to have a taller, wider tv console.

I would do a round table 56” in diameter...would look great. or a 56” x76” rectangle you subtract 30” from both sides of table for room to pull out chairs and maneuver around the space...also from length.. so take the width of your room and subtract 60” and take length if your room and subtract 60” Room width....116-60=56” wide for table width room length....136-60=76” long for table length
