I am abundantly grateful
Comments (13)You all bring up very good points, and I know you're right. For me, it was more about being there for the ones they do love. Their grandmother lost her son. Their aunt lost her brother. Both of these women have been good to them and showered them with love and support all their lives. There is nothing they wanted that grandma did not provide, and I mean everything from new cars to houses and property to paying for their college education. For his daughter, college education included med school. I could never turn my back on someone who loves me so, much less make her cry and plead because her wishes mean nothing to me. People attend the funeral services of those they never met in order to support the bereaved they care about, so I didn't see the grandmother's request too much to ask. Dances, I know you're right also in much of what you say, but I doubt who did not attend mattered to her. She wanted her grandchildren with her. When I walked in the door with the program books, she took one glance and completely lost it. She melted into her daughter's arms despite having already seen the completed version on the computer. Times like this, we want our loved ones close. Her problem the other day was she feared she would have so little support. You're really right about it not being my pain to bear. What she was going through is what bothered me so much, but I shouldn't have taken it to heart. I'm delighted to report all the grandchildren were in attendance. The daughter arrived half an hour late, but she was there and grandma was happy. My niece was the pillar of strength for her mom. She took care of everything, as well as hosting everyone at her house for dinner after the service. All is well that ends well. Thanks for your responses and condolences. It's not a one size fits all kind of situation, so I know you're right that the children are entitled to their feelings, too....See MoreRoses Unlimited Rose Order
Comments (18)Moses, I cannot thank you enough for your excellent advice! Thank you for knowledge about Quietness, and proper pruning. I have a feeling I will be ordering another one of her next year, if she is productive as she seems! I am just struggling with trying to figure out where all of these will go! The spot I do have in mind for Quietness will actually be in my front bed, by our large decorative lamp post, which I think will be quite pretty. I am placing my order for Lady Ashe along with Heirloom from Northland Rosarium today, and have a lovely spot of 6ft-high fence reserved for her. That is an excellent idea regarding the French drain. We are lucky to have excellent neighbors as well, so I will see if they have any ideas, as they have mentioned drainage previously. I began the discussion of additional French drains to DH, and he agreed to "look into it." I suppose that if it proves to be too expensive, I could perhaps convert that bed into my cutting garden instead, since it will be filled with a lot of annuals or wetness-tolerant perennials. Since the annuals don't form deep roots, a shorter raised bed might still work, and I could just flip-flop bed placement. So many decisions! Spring is really approaching quite rapidly, for those of us who are doing a lot of garden remodeling, when you think about it!...See MoreThis week I'm grateful for...
Comments (25)Sibling relationships can be a mixed bag. I am super close to my twin sister. Although we don't live close, we keep close by texting, talking and Instagram. My older sister is another story. I don't want to get into all the quirks. Both my twin and I just have to accept that we will never have a relationship with our older sister. We superficially keep in touch, but things can't be forced. No falling out per se, just totally different ways of thinking. My brother now lives an hour from my twin sister, so, they see each other often. I keep in touch through emails and I also have a relationship with his wife. dH does not like my brother. Different political views. I am going to have to work around this if I want to visit my brother in the near future. I don't particularly care for my DH's sister. Again, very different viewpoints, but with her it is our differences between what is right and wrong. But, she is all my DH has left, so she is in our lives. But.....getting back to our the theme of this thread. I am grateful that I am going to meet my cousin in the city today. I don't see her often and this was planned for a while. I am grateful that the weather is conducive to walking around the city today. Most of all, I am grateful that I CAN walk as far and as long as I like....See MoreI am grateful for…
Comments (17)Oh yes, I'm very thankful, for so many things, including my "imaginary friends" that I've made here and I'm thankful we're still here and cooking, canning, smoking, baking. I'm thankful that 2many is not cooking the cats, LOL, but not as thankful as they are! Today I'm busy being amazed at the nature of things. I've been starting my tomato plants, as well as peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, all kinds of "starts". I see that tiny little tomato seed, tuck it into a nice warm bed of earth, step back and watch it grow. That one tiny little seed will grow a plant that will give me dozens of tomatoes with thousands of seeds, each with the potential of producing a plant and thousands more seeds. It always amazes me, I think of all the potential contained in that single, tiny seed. Baby chicks should be here by Thursday, more egg layers, and that always makes me wonder why the first person would think "that came out of a chicken's butt, I think I'll eat it". (grin) I'm thankful that I'm in a somewhat unique position to grow my own food and share that with my family, which I'm also thankful for. And I'm especially thankful for that anonymous person who first paid my $15 fee about 15+ years ago, so that I could stay a member of the Cooking Forum. Spike ran it then and at first it was free, then he started charging a fee to join. As a single mother, I couldn't afford $15 for something so frivolous and so regretfully gave up my "membership". Some wonderful and generous person paid my membership so I could stay and I've been here ever since. Annie...See Morearcy_gw
