TV above fireplace - who has done this?
Comments (9)We've had the TV over the fireplace in a niche for 8 years. Never been uncomfortable and no one has complained which is not unusual since every home on our street was built with a TV niche years ago. Since we have the niche we don't have the same issues w/ decorating the mantle or placement of other equipment (it is under a shelf built by DH). However, in shopping recently for a new TV we noted that it seems very common now to mount the TV to the wall using the bracket that permits movement of the TV in/out, right/left, and slightly tilted; often wires are run within the wall down to the other equipment placed in a cabinet to the side of the FP. Good luck!...See MoreHelp! Couch is perpendicular to TV.
Comments (6)You have options! If you relocate the tv to the brick wall, what would the back of the sofa or sectional be facing? If it's the kitchen/dining area it can have a homey effect to define the spaces utilizing furniture. Orienting furniture this way will also ensure having one focal wall versus the two you have now but it's certainly not the only great option! You're correct about the back of the couch sort of stunting and rerouting the traffic flow. It's really a matter of preference in this case as either layout would work well with your room and the assumed spacial adjacencies. Under either layout, a sectional seems like it would be the right way to go. Happy shopping!...See MoreTV Niche above the fireplace.
Comments (12)I could put a big TV on the opposite wall, I guess. But there is no cable/cat5 there, so no signal source. This is a townhouse, so there are really only two walls where one could put it, and in the living room there is only one cable outlet - over the fireplace. Someone suggested just putting it on the floor in front of the fireplace - possibly elevated a few feet by something or another. Which is probably my cheapest way forward. I could then put a vase or something where the TV is currently....See MoreWhere to put basement fireplace VS optimal TV viewing.
Comments (0)Hello all. Please help with advice on where to place the electric fireplace vs an optional tv viewing position. The 1st photo is the view at the bottom of the stairs and entering the main area. Im mixed on whether I should put a half fireplace under the window, or onto the wall on the left. On the right where the small green stool is, is where the sofa will go and on the left wall, is where the TV will go. The distance of seating to the wall is just over 11ft. If I put a full fireplace on the left wall, the top of the TV (65 inch) will be a few inches under the ceiling and the bottom of the TV will be around 10 inches above that green tape. The green tape is eye level when sitting down. On this 2nd photo, is where the TV will be placed if I place the half fireplace under the window. The 4 small pieces of tape are the approx outside edges of the TV, with the larger tape being eye level. I cant purchase a mount to bring the TV down and still have the fire place place under because it would break the clearance area (203mm) above the fireplace. So: Option 1: Half fireplace under the window with optimal TV placement - practical option Option 2: Full fire place on the wall, TV placed high - aesthetic option Im using a white stone veneer (with shiny bits in it) and the mantle will be a similar color as the floor....See Morehoussaon
