I agree...lots of colors. The are pieces from other rooms in previous home. I don't care for the red wall. Walls were this color when we moved in. I can certainly paint the walls a different color altogether but I have the consider the rest of the house. My intended them was for a conversation/drinking room with chairs rather than couches. We hardly ever use this room but is at the home entrance. Trying to work with what I have and buy additional pieces to compliment. Do you think I can make it work with dark brown and camel leather chairs or should I start over? I was thinking a better rug would pull it all together. ??

I'm wondering why you think you need an area rug? If you add a rug under the desk the chair will no longer roll. I would not draw any more attention to that spot. Really there is no other place to locate the desk. The picture behind the sofa is mounted way too high and the lovely multiple images assembly is lost on that small wall, plus the drapery panels need to be placed at the outside of the slider. Not sure why you selected blue. I selected a green and the draperies need to be taller to take advantage of the tall ceiling height.

Hi Elizabeth, Yes, the rug is fairly thin, but with the rug pad it should be good. This is one of the actual customer reviews; I think this little one looks pretty comfy.:) Btw, I like your original idea for a black rug...and not because you can’t use other colors. You definitely can! But the black is striking; plus, imo, a simple black rug works well with your furnishings/style and with a number of the existing elements in your space. And I also like how it provides a nice backdrop for the granite, without competing. As I mentioned, personally I really like the existing granite, so I love a simple backdrop that lets it shine. From my perspective, your instincts on all of this were spot on. You are much more design saavy than you think! :)

You mention the paisley chairs as being important in the scheme, but you haven't posted a photo of them. As for the DINING room, a plain rug with an interesting border would be a good choice.
