Hi pineapplecake, Those stipulations in your post are kind of hard to meet. You don't want a chandelier. You don't want a low-profile LED or anything too modern-looking so any type of canned lighting or recessed lighting is out of the question. But you do want to put a medallion or something to cover the hole without actually patching it-->though it is option you'll consider. Only thing we can think of is possibly a flush mount or semi-flush mount light fixture but pairing a flush mount with a medallion may seem out of place for your home that was built in the 1930's. Maybe the other denizens of the Houzz forums can shed some light or provide a better solution for your unique situation and criteria. This sort of ceiling makes it difficult to do anything other than paint it. A flat or completely vaulted ceiling is much more versatile.

Yikes. I don’t know if they can tackle that. They have to replace all the flooring in the entire home, paint everything and replace countertops. Plus a ton of other stuff. Painting the ceiling seems hard (they are not very handy - lol). Now they do have to paint the ceiling in the basement and that will get interesting! Haha. Great kids. They just work crazy hours and have so much to do.

The problem is that 4" (and smaller fixtures) aren't designed for a ceiling with such a steep slope. For example, the HLA406VWFL9FS1EMWR is designed for a ceiling with a maximum slope of 30 degrees. For a larger slope, it appears you'd have to use a 6" fixture. I'd try a 4" recessed light whose lens is as flat as possible (i.e., not recessed into the fixture) to see how that works.
