Great Design for Rooms With Sloped Ceilings
Almost every house has one: that quirky room with the slanted ceiling. Just like eccentric Aunt Hazel, rooms with slanted ceilings can be charming. They also can leave you scratching your head as you try to come up with a design that makes the most of the space.
One of my favorite rooms in any house is the one that's been carved out what was once an empty attic. They feel cozy, hidden and special. Their sloped ceilings enhance the experience of the space.
Yep, that sloped ceiling in your home is a fact, here to stay, like Aunt Hazel's eccentric ways. Don't let it scare you or put you off, but let your hair down, get creative with it, and have some fun.

Rooms with slanted ceilings make great play rooms. Slanted ceilings aren't really obstacles for kids.
Polka dots emphasize the fun personality of this sloped ceiling. This little seating area is just perfect for an afternoon tea party.
Playrooms aren't the only uses for those quirky low-ceiling spaces in our homes. They can be the perfect area for an office niche. Work would almost be fun in this delightful home office.
Rooms with slanted walls and ceilings are already unique and special, so play that up. Wallpaper everything—the walls, the ceiling—there are no rules. Have fun!
The sky is the limit (sorry, couldn't resist) when it comes to decorating quirky ceilings. This would be an easy and fun design for a child's bedroom or playroom. I think I even know some adults who would enjoy looking up into blue skies and fluffy white clouds.
I'm seriously contemplating beadboarding the ceiling of my upstairs family/bonus room. It would look so much better than the big 1980's flower design currently squished into the ceiling. Those 1980's patterned ceilings are like wallpaper you can never remove. Do you have any of those in your home? It's tempting to have them all scraped and smoothed down, but oh, the mess. Maybe I'll just cover it all with beadboard and call it a day.
This bed has been placed at an angle to not block the double windows.
Here's another inspired design. Doesn't it just look as if it was made for twin beds? It's an adorable space.
An entire apartment can fit into an attic space. Pull your family room seating out to the center and tuck some window seats or shelving into the lower areas.
In an attic apartment, consider putting the kitchen appliances, sink and cabinets under the eves. (For more pics of this attic apartment, click on the picture, then look to your right. Hit the back arrow to return here.)
Tubs make great use of areas with lower ceilings. I love the built-in shelf/seat at the end of this tub.
Have you noticed? Rooms with slanted ceilings are almost always high on charm.
Do you have challenging ceilings of your own? I'd love to see how you are making the best of them!
