Black Baccara, year 1 finally in ground (2 big pics)
Comments (5)Yeah Hoovb, suuure we believe ya. Would you believe that I actually had to take almost a year off from this forum to stop the rose purchasing craze? The more I read, the more pics I'd see, the more roses I HAD TO HAVE. Really, the only way to stop was to stop coming over here! I think mine gets a little bit of morning sun but my house is west facing (ridiculous) so much of the unshaded part of my front yard yard gets blazed away, which is where my Austins went in. The afternoon sun the BB will get is filtered at best since it's directly under the trees. I am curious to see how well she continues to bloom. I had her potted in similar sun exposure under trees before and she bloomed out something wonderful....See MoreFinally some blooms from my Michigan garden!
Comments (12)Thanks, everyone! Seil -- The teachers loved the flowers, I was just sad I didn't have enough to make bouquets for all of the staff like secretary, music teacher, etc. -- I just did not have the blooms available this early after such a harsh winter so I decided I would just do each child's teacher. Flaming Peace sure put on a show! Ingrid -- thank you! I am just getting into roses and adore the old garden roses, even though I grow mostly new ones. I need some more room so I can have a special old garden rose corner! For now I will just have to visit the forum and enjoy looking at those! Madri -- Thanks, the flowers were a big hit at the school! Everyone wanted to smell them and couldn't believe they were all from my garden. I love seeing photos of roses from everywhere but it is special to see some pretty ones come from colder zones, and the spring is so special after being inside for months! Sara-Ann -- Thank you! I love seeing the other Michigan gardens on here, gives me some hope that I can keep my garden going! Jim -- Thanks, yes it was definitely worth the wait! I planted a whole second row late last season so I'm seeing a lot of these bloom for the first time and it is delightful! Martinca -- Thank you, yes it was quite the winter up here! Surprisingly I lost more during the 12/13 winter, but I think that was because I was a newbie and not planting properly for my zone. Kate -- Thanks! Yes, Dream Come True is an eye catcher, my husband even commented on that one! Peace is always a gorgeous rose, I agree! I have some more photos I took today of that bloom opening up and it is even prettier all full and pink tipped! Iris-gal -- Thank you! It is a pleasure to share! Carol -- Thank you! I agree about Kordes Perfecta, I could not believe that bloom form, and it held for at least two days! I planted my two Kordes Perfectas last year so this is my first time seeing them bloom as established (or at least second year) roses and they are really a treat. Thanks for letting me share :) Andrea...See MoreYear 1 vs Year 2 PRE bloom shots..
Comments (3)Nice to see the results of your hard work. The rock wall does a good job of setting the garden off from the wooded area. There are lots of plants to add for midsummer and autumn color and I expect you will be adding them now that you have established your favorites. Nice to see the Tuttie Frutti in bloom. I have three ws last year and hope to see them bloom this spring....See MoreFINALLY, some blooms on my Hibiscus mutabilis
Comments (9)Thanks all, I'm really excited about it, so I really appreciate your comments! Thanks. Definitely post pics of yours when they bloom Kevin and raimeiken! We'd love to see! I bought my cuttings as leafless pencil-like stems that I rooted in plain water. I left a small jar of water uncovered overnight to let the chlorine evaporate off and then used that to change the water of the rooting jar, every day until the roots were about an inch long and then I moved them into potting soil. I rooted a few mid-summer this summer from soft, green, leafy stems and they rooted fine in water too. Really a fun plant. Definitely get the 'butterfly rose' (Rosa mutabilis) pagan, I've grown it in several gardens including my last Scottsdale garden and really loved it. Pretty, color changing blooms and a nice light rose scent. Seeing a big bush with multiple blooms in different colors is quite a treat! Happy gardening everyone! Grant...See Morerosecanadian
