Comments (37)Thank you justgotabeme! It is true, we find ourselves in the FRONT of the house quite often! The first evening, we poured cocktails and just sat out front and stared. We are very pleased! CEfreeman-Ohhh, what a long, peaceful country driveway that is! I wouldn't want it to look too "maintained!" Hi Lyfia! I posted quite awhile ago, I was very gung ho on the faux wood grain...as a matter of fact, I wanted to do a faux carriage door look, adding the rustic hardware. Most people were against it...and this was when I was planning on painting my house a dark color. Now that my house is so light, I don't want a big dark expanse that takes up such a huge chunk of the front. If my house were bigger, or the paint darker,I would consider it. I do love that look, just not for this house at this time. birdlover-yes, we are thinking two big black pots on either side of the arch...and maybe on the far side of the garage...with bougainvilla or some flowering vine set on a trellis just a bit off from the house walls so they don't actually grow on the walls! The reason we are thinking black pots is...when you drive to our house, you first see the south side of it...with a row of windows with black awnings over each window. So we feel the big black pots will tie the side and the front together. lukkiriish-thank you, I just love those california spanish homes! Thanks for comparing my home to one of those! Ok, again, I really appreciate every single comment. It has been so much work and money and as much as my hubby and I enjoy it, it is nice to see it be well received here!...See MoreBefore-After Pics of my small kitchen in So Calif
Comments (26)lyfia - Thanks. Even my mood is brighter when working in my new kitchen : ) mab1964 - I'm really glad we added the glass on the cabs above the peninsula. To save money, we only did glass on 4 of the 8 doors. We chose to do glass on the 2 outer doors on the outside portion of the cabs (facing the family room). We did glass on the 2 inner doors for the portion facing the inside of the kitchen. See pics below. I feel like the glass adds a nice dimension and gives variety and lightens up the feel a lot so your eye doesn't only see wood. Another modification we made from the original over peninsula cabs...the new cabs are not quite as tall & a little less in length as well. This modification opened up the area a little and I still feel the cabinet space is sufficient. Now, when standing in the kitchen and talking to someone who's standing on the outside of the peninsula, I don't feel like the cabs are such a distraction like the old ones were. hisgal - Thanks. I like my faucet with one handle very much! My old faucet had one handle, although it wasn't exactly the same as this new one. So, it didn't take much getting use to. Below is a pic of my old faucet...so sad looking. I learned from people on this site that ceramic disc valves and solid brass construction are important features to look for when buying a faucet. drarc - Any ideas about what kind of backsplash you may want to use in your kitchen? Dal Tile has a nice showroom in Anaheim. The public can look, but they sell to contractors. Will your kd be involved with the backsplash? If not, you might want to check out Anaheim Stone Works (2020 E. Howell Ave, Suite F). They use Dal Tile and are located right across the street from them. Anaheim Stone Works did our granite and they probably do backsplashes, as well. We were very pleased with them. ngng - Thanks for the nice comments : ) I was finally able to view the slideshow of your beautiful new kitchen! When I picked on your link, I got a black screen (even after waiting a few minutes). Then, I tried picking directly onto one of your pics in your post...and I got it!! All of your colors go so well together. I especially like the message center, granite & backsplash & the decorative plate displayed in the corner..so pretty : ) You did an amazing job on everything! Old Faucet : ( New Faucet : )...See Moremy kitchen is done!!!! before and after pics
Comments (45)Zecchini, I love your kitchen renovation so much from the color of the cabinets, to the hardware, to those big beautiful floor tiles on the diagonal, to that gorgeous backsplash, to those counters are stunning and that little doggie really enhances the pictures. Thanks for sharing some information about the kitchen to give me ideas....See MoreNeed ideas for my kitchen remodel
Comments (11)I'm going to conflict with some of the other comments above - your microwave is at the proper height off the counter so disregard that directive. I would replace the wall cabinets because you can't stretch them and you don't have enough space above to add - my professional eye tells me you could put 36" upper wall cabinets with a small two piece crown or install 33" uppers with a medium sized crown. I'd either do a darker stain or paint the base cabinets and do the uppers in a painted white or off white depending on the base color you decide on. IF YOU COULD AFFORD IT - I'd change the base cabinets to include deep drawers for pots-n-pans (30 - 36" wide works best) and include an 18" wide cabinet on the island to hold dual waste. (You can get a single with a 15" wide cabinet). It all comes down to money and unfortunately that doesn't grow on trees! On the positive side, you layout is very nice - we spend a great deal of time at our sinks and with your sink on the island facing the family you are part of what ever is going on. It's hard to see but I think your recessed lights are LED's - if not switch them out - that you can do yourself and it's not expensive. I'd add under cabinet lighting on a separate switch. If $$ is an issue the Algean post form laminate counter tops give you the look of stone but are still laminate. However, it doesn't hurt to get a price on stone so you have all the information you need in order to make a good decision. Flooring - you have so many options and so many price points. I've never been a fan of splitting a room up like they have here. Having the tile on a diagonal also adds to the visual mix - I just put a vinyl plank floor that lay's as opposed to a click floor as I was working in a commercial building with various underlayment materials. She went with a dark wood plank look and it came out great! We didn't spent alot on the material but installation by a certified installer was more of the investment - but worth it. And, PAINT! I love color - it's a cheap way to liven up your space and if you take your time and have a steady hand you can do it yourself! Have fun....See Moreacm
