Comments (4)Hi Dottie, Well I guess you enjoy challenges, I kinda responded to this on my post but it deserves another response on here, your right about the cactus part and having too start over after summer makes perfect sense with the heat out there. I'm not sure how many succulents you carry but bringing them indoors is one thought at least for the hottest months but then again not sure if you have tons of them or not. Having to start over because of the scorching heat is terrible however... I could bring them to my house right before spring ends instead of letting them suffer. Just kidding of course but I have been known for plant sitting :) I know it gets up to 110ð & sometimes even hotter out there, I think the difference out where I'm at is that its not so hot for the whole day & night like it is in Indio, Ca. Another tip would be screens over a patio to shade them and maybe even some misters. I notice a lot of Restaurants out in Palm Springs, Ca. have them for the peeps who are brave enough to go out there in the summer. I'll keep my eye open for other suggestions too, in the mean time stay indoors, drink plenty of fluids and if you have to go outside stay in the shade. Comments (48)Sam: That's the best bush-shot of Alnwick rose. so many blooms. How do you like the scent? I'm going keep my eyes opened for outdoor-wood-burner at Craig's list. My neighbor has a small open one (a circular one with feet) which he got at garage sale, and he got lots of wood-ash from that small fire-pit. But that has to be stored inside a garage, 2 neighbors had to trash their metal-fire-pits, since they got rusty in the rain. There's a picnic area with a public fireplace nearby, will have to check if there's wood ash inside that fireplace. We go past that park when I go to the Spice House to get spices. I've just spent 1 hour drilling hundreds of holes on my plastic pots ... roots need air to grow big. Can't find the fast-draining pine-based potting soil, so I just have to cope with slower-draining MG-moisture control (sold cheap at Sam's club $!1 for a HUGE BAG twice the size at Walmart). Jude the Obscure is an old favorite, 2 own-root Jude died on my zone 5a winter, so I try 2 more own-roots this year, but will winterize them inside my garage ... I'm addicted to Jude's scent. The pink ones are Annie L. McDowell rose (thornless):...See Morenew home, new/old garden
Comments (2)The plant by your foundation looks like yarrow/achillea. It's a full-sun, drought-tolerant plant that grows to about 3-4 feet & flowers in the spring. Then you can cut it back to keep it from flopping; you'll need to put it where it won't crowd anything else. As K & D said, it's a good idea to live in the space for a while before you start making changes, although I'd say more than a season; some things won't appear in the first season you're in the house. I do love the lushness of the lamb's ears, purslane, phlox, & columbine. You can cut the columbine back after it flowers. Congratulations on your new/old house & garden!...See MoreNew TV shows vs Old TV shows
Comments (23)Jasdip, I just have a cheap inside antenna. Some of my friends in the county pick up more stations than I do. I also can't pick up our local ctv station in my living room which I find strange but when I had a television in the bedroom I used to be able to get it a 5 am. I got rid of cable in 2004, my neighbour bought me the analog box and the antenna years before the stations changed and set it up for me. I couldn't believe the all the new stations that appeared. I am in a good location. I am always scanning for new stations. I get better reception and more stations than some of the people i know who are paying for cable or digital and they don't get any of the local Detroit stations. I just think of all that money I didn't give to the cable company haha it now goes to Bell for my internet...See MoreIdaClaire
