I'm in the midst of a similar project for my DD. We are using 1940's vintage furniture. While some of the furniture was already painted a distressed aqua, we decided on a creamy white (BM Bavarian Cream). The creamy white has really brightened up her room, made it look more spacious, plus allowed us more versatility with paint and fabrics. However, DD wants to leave the nightstands unpainted so we'll probably do that as I figure I can always paint them later. Personally, I do not care for painting the hardware the same color--just looks like a lazy paint job to me). I am using Rust-oleum on all the hardware--a brushed nickel finish. Dissenter here - I've purchased three pieces of living room furniture from PB, and been delighted with the quality and stability of all three. I've also furnished a living room in rental property with pieces from JCP and was disappointed with the quality. The pieces I bought from PB were a round coffee table, side table and couch console. They are several years old and have held up exceedingly well to vigorous family room activity. They are all solid wood and relatively heavy to move. I recently decided to alter the finish of the console, from a stained finish to black paint, and had to completely disassemble this piece to properly remove all the stain prior to priming and paint. I was impressed that all the structural pieces, (those that can't be seen when the table is assembled), were all solid wood, also. The pieces I bought from JCP were a dining table, windsor chairs, coffee table, end table, console, two windsor style bar stools and a dresser. The finish on all was not as attractive as pictured, and many parts of the dresser were not solid wood, but particle board. The JCP furniture was close in cost to what I paid for the PB pieces, so this was a disappointment.

I've been using it as a home office for several years, but moved out the furniture recently while I was remodeling and now reconsidering if there are better options. Having a spare room at all in my area is a luxury! There's shelving in the wardrobe and closet for office supplies. I have a 2 drawer filing cabinet that matches the desk that can squeeze in somewhere. (though it's too tall to actually fit under the desk, thanks Pottery Barn!). I have definitely considered something more like this, that has built in file storage and smaller footprint.
