Bathroom with 2 entrances: what do you think?
Comments (4)My parents have a "master bathroom" that has a door from the master bedroom into the bathroom and also a door from the hall into the bathroom. For them, this is extremely functional. It allows them quick/easy access to the bathroom whether from their room at night or in the day when they're elsewhere in the house. They also use the bathroom for a sort of "air lock" system when pets need to be contained while certain guests are in the house. The only drawback is the wall space that a door takes up that could be used for something else....See MoreBathroom Reveal, Thanks to the Bathroom and Remodel Forums!X-Post
Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See MoreEasy-clean bathrooms--why isn't this a thing?
Comments (7)Easy clean is a thing in my house ... and it's going to be even more a thing in my new house! Specific thoughts: - Avoid white-white and black ... go with something that won't show every bit of dirt. - Yes to shower curtains instead of glass doors. Yes to minimal grout lines. - Put your shower niche in a pony wall so it isn't visible from the rest of the bathroom. - We're planning to attach a half-bath to the master ... only one toilet on the first floor to clean. - Tile to waist height behind the toilet ... because men. - Choose light fixtures that point downward ... they can't catch dead bugs or accumulate dust. - Pick the same towels for all your bathrooms ... they'll wash together and it won't matter which bathroom they go into. - Plan for closed storage; an awful lot can go into an 18-24" linen tower. As part of your storage, include a spot for a hamper. Plan spaces for your hair dryer, extra toilet paper, etc. ... if you don't plan, it'll be left out on the countertop all the time. - Avoid freestanding tubs and choose a tub filler that includes a sprayer (easier to clean the tub). - Take your vanity cabinet all the way to the wall. Why create a couple inches that're difficult to reach? - Choose a one-hole faucet so you have less to "clean around". If you can't do that, choose a wide-spread faucet rather than a bitty faucet that requires you to "floss" between the pieces. - Keep it modest in size. Large bathrooms (and duplicate fixtures) require more time to clean....See MoreA not so funny thing happened on the way to the bathroom redo
Comments (17)No complaints about laminate prices vs. quartz! We've just looked at a very small selection of Corian/WilsonArt at HD, will try to find a better source for samples. The island oak "frame" is very slightly different from cabinets (although it has the same cabinets on stove side), it is just accentuated in this pic. We just finished that light box yesterday, lol! It had some sort of old gray meshwork on it, we switched it out for white (looks much better when light is off) and replaced a ballast. It is fluorescent tubes. The lighting looks pretty "right" on my screen, I have to wonder about screen variation as the knobs are white enamel. Definitely dated, but I thought they lightened up the wood a little. I've never played with other options before, that would be easy! There ARE a lot of shades of brown, I always thought the countertop color was odd, but we bought the house anyway. I guess that says something about it all, yes? Sounds like the consensus is on the light side. Thanks for your opinions!...See MoreEcclesiasticus Jesus
