Can a slider be a back door?

In our midcentury modern, under renovation, we have a conventional front door and sliders in the back from living and bedrooms. In addition, we have added a traditional backdoor, but people have told us this is overkill --redundant, and an added security risk. We have been advised to simply eliminate the conventional, hinged back door and stick with the sliders, which are already in place. Do you agree? Keep in mind, in this MCM the sliders out to the environment are key features of our glass walls out back. Are sliders enough --why would we ever need yet another back door instead. This is a small house.
