Interior barn door- traditional?
Comments (15)Thank you for all the great links! I'm so excited to see so many different options. geokid: read through your thread for your bedroom- what a fantastic idea! I will keep researching, but am I correct in understanding that the box track systems are less expensive and aren't too noisy? If the door has wheels on the base, how does it work with hardwood floors? I see in some of the examples that the wheels just slide across the floor. I thought there would need to be an indent or space built into the floor. Wondering how much space this leaves open below the door when shut? Not a huge issue since the barn door is for our mudroom and not a bathroom, but wondering how they look when shut. Keep the ideas coming! Thank you!...See MoreHow To Emulate This Barn Door Closet (Wall-Length Closet Design)
Comments (4)The barn doors completely cover the opening. Ideally you would have a two inch overlap on either side but I have some that have one inch on either side and they still look amazing. The photo that you have pictured just shows them opened. If you have room on either side of the door for them to slide open then you could have the doors on one rail; which is a lot cheaper. Otherwise you will need a bypass door which is more $$. I got my rails and doors for two closet at rusticahardware.com but I just installed another one today (partially done in my basement where my furnace is as there was no other option) These were significantly cheaper and I bought them at homedepot. Something new that they carry. I'll be making the doors tomorrow. Hope you decide to do it. I love the look!...See MoreInterior barn door for bedroom but you can see from living room,
Comments (11)I love barn doors. But my style is more rustic glam/pottery barn. And I have cows. However, a barn door is a terrible choice as a bedroom door. It should go in a space where leaving the door open is fine. You don't really want your bedroom door open and you aren't going to slide the barn door all the time. For example, in my flip home (barn doors will still be in style when I sell next year!), I am putting a barn door between the main living space in the basement and the spare room/office. The door would normally be left open and the spot calls for it. In my new home, I am wanting to put one inside my master bedroom as a way to cover up my "coffee/wine bar" that is inset into the wall. Normally the barn door will be left open, but if I wanted to close it to hide the coffee bar, I could....See MoreOpen concept basement with a lot of closet and interior doors.
Comments (11)I know what you saying ladies, it's always good to have an extra opening. I guess the way they looking at it if you awake, you can hear the smoke alarm and have enough time to escape simply put... If you sleeping you might not hear the alarm, and by the time you hear it and wake up, it could be too late, so each sleeping room must have an additional escape route or rescue entry point so the fireman can climb in and out wearing full gear. I can see in NY this being enforced more because most houses are attached and even single family homes are semi-attached or separated by the driveway... not to mention they make any hole in the wall habitable because they rent them for 1k a month... You see basements with a stove next to a bed and table and a clothes hanger and they get 1000- 1500 a month....See Morejulieste
