Anyone else noticing lack of fireblight this year so far?
Comments (10)I had a lot and I do mean a lot of fire blight last year. I first started noticing it in the pear trees around the first of May. By the 9th of May, it was in all the pear trees, Asian as well as European. I was cutting out hugh garbage bag fulls. By the 21st of May, I had done three major cuttings. It was not until May 27th that I cut fire bight out of the apple trees. A lot of the apple trees had been very aggressively pruned the previous winter and numerus water sprouts were present. This is where a lot of the shepard's crooks were found. This is the first year that I readily saw the golden droplets of the fire blight dripping on other parts of the fruit trees. I lost three trees from fire blight and have about three that may not survive this year. It was not until September 3rd. that I finished cutting out fire blight! The last trees that I cut fire blight out of were Cox Orange Pippin, Lodi and Hewes Crabapple....See MoreAnyone else have a living area that doesn't get much light?
Comments (8)Go for cozy and use a dark rich color. Make sure you do have alot of layers of artificial light. Overhead+lamps. Our library is not as bright as our family room. We opted for darker richer colors in the library vs. white walls in the family room. I also added lamps even though we have recessed lighting. I would go for a dark teal or navy ( hale navy), but do these colors go with the rest of your decor or are you starting from scratch? A dark brown or charcoal (kendall charcoal or fairview taupe)can also look very nice, so it doesn't necessarily need to be a "color". This is BM kingsport gray. It's a bright room, but even with the drapes closed the color looks great. This is the library that isn't very bright: Compare this to the family room which is very bright so can handle white walls: This post was edited by pps7 on Tue, Jul 2, 13 at 20:52...See Moreanyone else need the motivation right now?
Comments (29)Well...my day was mosly spent running around or doing mundane chores. Then DH called and wanted to take us to dinner and a movie. Because of time constraints, we ended up having Burger King. I tried the new mushroom swiss burger-very good, however I had no fries. A burger and a diet coke LOL! After the movie-Madagascar 2 (which was very good-better than the first!)I came home and folded laundry. By then it was 10 pm. I thought about this post-felt guilty-and went and exercised on the Wii Fit for an hour. See-its motivating already....See MoreAnyone else having a late start on their figs or lack of fruit?
Comments (22)Mike - my ponderosa arrived this morning. I'll attach some pictures of the unboxing and the plant itself. I have a couple of questions for you. 1) it's in a small pot - should I repot and if so, what soil do you recommend? 2) one of the pics shows a stem which Logees clipped off, in order to make a single stem. Should I continue to leave it as a single? The cut portion is already throwing out a leaf so I would think it wants to grow. 3) I'm going to place it in the GH now. It will recieve a very bright light, but no direct sun. Can it eventually be plaved in direct sun once it's acclimated? Overall the plant is super healthy. I'm very impressed with it, although the shipping, because I wanted 2 day, was the cost of the plant itself! Ouch, but I don't trust the USPS with anything any more. Thanks for getting me hooked!...See MoreAnne
