Log house living = LOTS of wood... living room area rug help please!
Comments (11)I have lived in 2 log homes. I understand your problem! Do you have any interior stonework also? Last time I was in this position, I tried to pull the base color of the rug from the lightest tone in the stone on my fireplace, so that I didn't end up with too much going on. Jewel tones do seem to work well, also. I like the last 3 you posted in the comments. It is really hard to pick unless you can see the rugs in person, too. I ended up ordering my last rug through a local furniture store, where I could see and feel samples. They ended up being very competitive on price. I tried ordering online first, and the colors always seemed a little "off" once I got them rolled out in my wood-everywhere house....See MoreLiving room area rug design help!

Comments (54)Wow!! Thank you Beverly!! That’s awesome what you did with placing picture on the wall, placing the rug on the floor, and placing it in different areas. We are a bit stuck on the location of our couch and rug, as we use a wheel chair (has to be open), but based on your pictures, i think we could go up to a 10 x 14 rug size instead of the current 9 x 12 (currently pushed back to the wall). I just have to make sure there is enough room to “roll” on the floor (without the rug getting in the way). I love the colors you posted, as well as the inspirational/idea photos!! I definitely like and want one or more of the colors you posted. There is a rug currently on sale that is very similar to the one your posted (aqua and ivory). It’s a 10 x 14 for only $220 (says it’s normally $1200) with a matching runner for only $48. It’s a shag style, BUT....... I “think” I really prefer a wool rug....See Morerequest for help with living room area rug layout
Comments (6)I found an option for a slightly larger rug: 13’ wide x 20’ long, as compared to 12’ wide x 18’ long. I’ll attach a mock up with the larger rug. The differences in exposed wood floor around the rug would be: 12x18: 2.5’ of floor would show on the sides, and 3.75’ would be exposed on the ends 13x20: 2’ of floor would show on the sides, and 2.5’ would be exposed on the ends What would look better?? The 13x20 provides length to center the rug and cover floor irregularities that I don’t love, but is a lot of rug. The 12x18 leaves things I don’t love exposed but also leaves us with more wood floor. I think I’m concerned that 13x20 might cover too much floor. Any thoughts based on experience would be much appreciated!!...See Moreshirlpp
