Socks, yes. Underwear not so much

Edited to add: you got me curious enough to count those socks. 67 pairs in the drawer, plus probably 20 or so more of 'footies' in the tote of summer clothes that I haven't got out yet.

I even noticed a bag up at the top of my closet shelf the other day and couldn't remember what was in it...brand new underpants I've yet to add to the drawer!

I am with lgmd. I even culled through my sock drawer not too long ago and still have a lot. I think also I am very particular and have a decided preference for some. Usually by the time I figure out how superior they are, I have no clue where they came from. :)

I have what I consider to me a normal amount of underwear though.:)

Socks for me, not so much underwear

At a minimum, I like having two week's worth of both socks and underwear. Right now I have about 20 pairs of socks. Most are plain white crew socks that I buy by the dozen every couple years. Soon it will be time to switch over to plain white low-cut socks for summer. The 'extras' are left over from when I worked, eventually they will wear out and I won't replace them. I also have an excess supply of underwear, thanks to my sister. She abhors brightly colored underwear (why? I don't know) so she recently gave me a dozen new ones (why'd she buy them if she didn't like them? I don't know) that she hadn't even worn. I don't donate underwear to charity unless in original unopened packaging, so I have enough underwear for the next decade.

i.e. donating underwear. At the church rummage sales, gently used underwear (CLEAN), is always a best seller.

I used to collect patterned socks back in my working days so I have a pretty good stash. They don't get used as frequently any more and I doubt I will be replacing or adding any. Underwear - 'smalls' as they are called in my family - I replace routinely so an adequate but not excessive supply :-)

But I seem to have a pretty good sized collection of T shirts in a vast range of colors and most with some sort of gardening theme printed on them. Many with bees. I have a passion for bees so my family is always gifting me with "bee" themed presents, including T shirts. And socks!

Not a lot....maybe 5 pairs of socks. The others.... very few and only worn on special occasions....like when I go to the doctor and have to take my clothes off.

Lots of underwear, but I only have a about a week‘s worth or so that I wear. thanks for the nudge to rummage through and get rid of the ones I don’t wear anymore (they don’t fit, style no longer works on me, etc)

more than a two week supply of both. Also new unopened underwear.

Our excessive underwear comes from buying and not getting the size right. I throw away anything that has been next to the privates and save the rest of the package for donation.

I have a variety of socks for different needs. I gathered up the winter ones yesterday and put them in a different drawer. I need new athletic ones for summer. My dd like to help herself to them and I have some that are simply wearing out.

Socks and underwear take up the 3 top drawers in my big dresser and the top drawer in my chest of drawers. I think I'm going to have to start cleaning out and organizing. No room for anything else. One drawer is just nylon type hosiery and I think I have pantyhose in there so old that when I go to stretch the waistband, it doesn't go back.

Not really. Enough to wear before I need to do laundry. I found a new bag of t-shirts of hubby's that he got from Costco.

But kitchen items? I love mugs. Why do I have so many mugs and dinner plates? Single people have trouble filling a dishwasher, because what they need is usually in it. I'd have no problem.

Just the average two week supply of socks and underwear. Tee shirts and tank tops are my downfall, I have wa-a-a--aa-y too many!

Jasdip, we we were posting at the same time. Dishes are another weakness, not just mugs, but various size bowls, and salad and dessert plates, and on and on. Why so many? Who knows, but I like them!

I culled ALL the white no show socks that wouldn't stay up. Now my new rags! Great for cleaning windows!

I buy Jockey or other name brands....so I have a dozen of each.....no more.

I was short on bed sheets, but I just purchased 3 new sets.

I'm with Jasdip and Rusty. I may not have lots of underwear....I have adequate amounts for how often I wear them....but don't get me started on kitchen ware. Bowls, utensils, pots and pans.

No idea how many socks, but three drawers full (below ankle, ankle, and knee highs) and about 25 pair unders. also about ten bras of witch I wear the same three or four.

I have a moderate amount of underwear, but lots of socks. I haven't been wearing the woolly socks that I purchased when I went through a period when my feet were always cold. But as soon as I give them away, I will need them again!

Lots of underwear, but only 3 pairs of socks. I normally don’t wear socks, even in the winter. As a single person I do have an a ton of dishes, cups, bowls. I also have a coffee maker and 4 French press coffee carafes.

Nope. When I buy new, I toss out the old for both.

I have to keep reminding myself to not buy any more warm winter socks for my perpetually cold feet. I have at least twice as many as I need, already.

I have probably twice as many running socks as I need too - because I bought some to replace several pairs of a favorite brand (that were just looking old and grayish, but not wearing out otherwise) and I just keep wearing the old ones.

Bedsheets - I have 2 sets of new ones, but the old (cotton), worn out ones are now so velvety soft that I don't want to give them up.

Marilyn_c, it seems that I inherited my mother's weakness for pretty dishes - currently I have 3 different patterns in my kitchen, plus some random soup bowls and plates that I like the size of, and another 3 in the dining room cabinet (that I bought for myself - this doesn't include her old formal china that she gave me 40 years ago, and 2 casual sets that she either gave to me or I kept from her condo). She had 13 sets, from 4 to 12 place settings, when she passed.

I used to have a big basket of single socks waiting until I had time and patience to go through them. When I took my husband's garbage bag full of underwear to the curb they went with it. I am down to perhaps 20-30 socks mostly mismatches.

Not so long ago I read about a survey done in England about how many pair of undershorts men had. DH has always had at least a dozen at a time, so I was amazed to read that the average Englishman thought three pair was enough -- one 'in use'; one in the laundry; one in reserve. They must do laundry more frequently. (I don't like to think of another alternative reason.)

I have a basket of unmatched socks in my closet. The last time I discarded all the unmatched socks, I found their mates within weeks. (Or wow the ones I threw out snuck back in!)

I had lots of mismatched socks, so I matched them up with single socks that were similar. Maybe a good idea, but I never wear them! lol!

I need more of both. I do not care about socks matching. The ones I do have have colors on them because I dislike plain white things and I never even think to look when I grab a couple to put on. They are inside my shoe so who's gonna know?

I do have ridiculous amounts of other things, just not those 2 things. Bath and body works lotions, sprays and soaps. Whole shelves of them in my closet. Christmas plates,which i can never get enough of as long as they are tacky and fun. Christmas lights. Dogs. I have lots of dogs,5. I have 3 of those "rich widow" robes. You know,, those fabulous feathered flowing robes. That's probably too many, but I love them all. Pink. I have an insane amount of pink things. But not underwear. Or socks.

I am so glad you posted this, I have a ton of socks that I can’t wear. I have to wear compression socks now. I need to donate them!

I have 10 pair of underwear and seven tee shirts with pockets ... and quite a few half pairs of socks ... darn dryer ...

I have a large number of socks, many with varying sizes of holes, and quite a few who appear to be mismatched. Some may have been stepuncle's which were here after his passing from this life.

I also have a substantial number of underwear, many of the briefs having become quite aged. I'm surprised that some have developed holes, usually not doubles from where the hip bones rub on the chairs but centred in back. I didn't think that I produced such large, or speedy, blasts that they'd blow holes in the skivvies!

I'm surprised that some of you females who wear dresses oftener than I do, weren't telling of your worries regarding elastics that had deteriorated so much in old drawers that they couldn't (or wouldn't) hold the drawers in the location to which they'd been drawn up.

Having had some frustrating sliding on the part of my old drawers with expanded waistbands (and I don't sport a pot down at the beltline), I chose to make some portable elastic waistbands some time ago, as some you know. Some of them have stretched and needed resewing, but are still going.

I found some different style of elastic some time ago that tries hard to stay flat across, resisting the rolling that many elastic bands do as they age.

I made substantial use of two of them in the winter one on the drawers and the other on the (rather old) long johns, some of which sported some rather tired elastics at their waists.

socks! i recently went to a podiatrist to address the horrible calluses on my feet. after he used a scalpel to rid me of the most painful ones, he said in order to keep them manageable, i have to use a moisturizer on my feet and i can no longer go barefoot around the house. i hate wearing shoes in the house so it's been a huge adjustment for me. i also use the cream and wear socks to bed. since i've been doing this, my feet are in much better shape, no more pain, but i'm going through socks every day like water off a duck's back!

Too many clothes in general--I love clothes. Too many plants--I love plants. Too many books--you know, I love books too but since the pandemic, I only read on my tablet the books that I borrow from my library. So more money for clothes and plants.

I have quite a few pairs and too many singles. Wear socks most every day. I’ve knit a few and love those. I keep them separately: summer socks, winter socks.
