Quick help needed on backsplash and doorway decision
Comments (4)I can't comment re: counter size/projection itself, but will say that the backsplash should be the width of the counter. Re what another poster wrote: And that tile as a backsplash will be difficult to clean. We used split-face mosaic tile in our hall bathroom. We don't have kids, but that is the bathroom DH uses. I don't go in there to wipe up after him constantly (I clean the bathrooms weekly, and in-between, will wipe down the sink, or clean the soap dish if it's scummy, as needed). I sealed the backsplash tile well, and after almost two years of using the bathroom, the tile looks as good as it did the day it was installed. I wipe it down with wet damp or wet microfiber cloth after I've cleaned the sink or tub. Once in a while I'll spray the backsplash with the same cleaner I use on the tub surround (7th Generation Disinfecting Bathroom cleaner spray), and then wipe dry. No problem keeping it clean....See MoreExhausted my decision-making ability - help w/ backsplash ideas?
Comments (29)I let out barely audible gasp when I saw those tiles, Sweeby. I love them! And I think I might love them even more, as Alku says, in a very muted gray. Or a combination of the two. And Alku, I agree about the iffy-ness of matching up the whites. One thing I wish I could do as you did -- is to find the same $$ deal on tiles. What a steal, lucky you. I want to do my backsplash and get it over with. Ann Sacks and Jeffrey Court are out of my league, but if I can keep the price at near $25/ft, I'll be OK. Well, I have NO IDEA what the install prices are. Can anyone give me some idea of what to expect? Do you think $15/ft is in the ballpark? I'm drawn to the marble combinations in the mosaic, Sweeby. It's soft looking. Do you think I could pull that off in 4x4s? The shop where I got my marble carries Jeffrey Court. Maybe I could convince them to give me a contractor's price since they've been using me as their cheerleader for using marble in the kitchen. I've spoken to several of their prospective clients; maybe they'll throw me a bone....See MoreWWYD? Please help with countertop/backsplash decision!
Comments (5)The backsplash will contrast nicely with your Pebble. I have just installed a marble backsplash with CS Piatra Grey and it works well, as the medium grey pulls out accents from the backsplash. I have a bit of bianco carrara in a ledge area and in a table. The island, however, is the same material as the perimeter. How big is your island? One thing to consider is remnants. I think there is one place in San Jose and Planet Granite (with an online search engine) out in Sac that are slabyards that specialize in remnants. Some of the prefab suppliers also sell island sized pieces, with and without a finished edges....See MoreHelp-Neverending backsplash decision
Comments (23)Smpop, as A2 mentioned above, I have linear mixed glass, stone and stainless mosaic tile in my kitchen so I obviously love the type of tile you are considering. My granite while actually splotchy reads as more of a solid color and I only used the tile behind the cooktop, so I don't think it looks too busy in my kitchen. Here is a look at mine: For your kitchen, I agree with many of the other posters that the mosaic that you show is great but might not look great in your kitchen. I think you could still go with a linear mosaic tile but I would look for it in a single color or tone on tone color. It is difficult to tell exactly the color that works with your granite but I think something like this glossy linear ceramic might work: Or maybe a frosted and glossy glass like this Those two are from Glass Tile Oasis. You can order samples on line. Good luck with your tile decision. Your kitchen is very nice, so warm and inviting. This post was edited by badgergal on Mon, Jul 29, 13 at 0:23...See Morefreedomplace1
