Help! I think I killed my dogwood

This Cornus alba 'Prairie Fire' dogwood was completely rootbound in the pot it came in.

I teased out the roots but in the process lost three quarters of the soil medium and some of the smallest roots.

The first week, it seems to do fine, but over the past few days I'm seeing leaves turning brown. It started with the lower leaves and now have spread to the top.

There's also something that looks like white fungus on one of the branches which I can wipe away.

For the past couple of days temperatures have hit 24C / 75F.

I have drip irrigation around the base of the plant. I have the water turned on for about an hour every day, and each emitter flows 1gallon per hour (I'd estimate 5 emitters around the plant.

Is there any hope?
