Shower tile idea needs

Hello,Having a dilemna with deciding what tile to use in a shower for a modern look being done to my bathroom. Any ideas would greatly help. The bathroom floor will be a 12 x 24 matte black tile as per the picture. The vanity is modern light wood with white quartz counter and the fixtures in shower and sinks are a mix of black and chrome.I look forward to thoughts!Thanks,

@streetdreamin - sorry for lack of responses, maybe start a new thread and ask again. I do a lot of bathrooms like this and like to use large scale tiles, limited color palate, no accent tiles or strips or mosaics. Your dark gray + white + wood vanity + chrome is classic & I don’t think you need to add anything else.

Shower is a stand up shower fairly big. With a full glass not closed. Shower base will be 43"×65"

This is our shower in progress. The tiles actually have the bamboo texture but it isn't too obvious. I agree with enduring that if you want simple and uncluttered look you might want to rethink accent tiles. Or use them very sparingly. I've seen large 12x24 tile showers with small amount of solid color glass accent tiles and they look nice. Not sure if granite mixed in will work because granite tends to have very busy patterns.

hi remodelfla, I'm not sure you would be interested in this, it is probably not what you want, BUT I saw this bathroom that Sarah R. did using Lowe's tiles. The overall look is great, there are white subways, cream tiles, gray pencil tile, and the floor is an inexpensive marble that she laid with a mesh marble subway tile cut to make the border. If you look at the details closely you can see how they did it all. I think it really gives a high end look for not a lot of money. Here is one picture, if you want more, just let me know, I have some close ups. They also used a white chair rail tile to cap it off as it went around the room. In other parts of the room they simply used the cream tile from floor up, then hit the gray pencil, white subway, gray pencil, white chair.

Plenty of rugs won't save you. I was giving the lab a bath. He bolted out the bathroom door after the bath and I rushed to close the door because it was drafty. He scrambled the rugs on the way out, I slipped and fell into the door jamb and broke my wrist. Would not use the tiles that are linked on a floor. They have R9 Slip Resistance rating which is the least slip resistant rating.

Not what you are asking but I will go first. Your shower is constructed incorrectly. Drywall is not an acceptable substrate in a shower by the drywall manufactures for 20 years and Green Board or Moisture Resistant Drywall has NEVER been an approved shower substrate. Just something to think about before you get past the point of tearing it all out and finding a proper tile setter.

@ millworkman - I’m with you but Schluter’s instructions have plain ol drywall as an acceptable substrate for their waterproofing system

It might not be the way you or I do a shower, was surprised this was from Schluter.

But NOT Green Board. That is a complete no-no because of the face surface treatment.

After just speaking with the contractor doing the work it was indicated the schluter system is being used on top, the way myricarchitect stated.

It cannot be used over Greenboard as the surface of the Greenboard has a treatment on it to make it moisture resistant which effects the Kerdi adhering. Also as an aside the drywall manufacturers specifically state no drywall in a shower so there is zero substrate warranty. Ask Schluter how they will warranty their system over a substrate that the substrate manufacturer says does not meet their approved application.

To OP - you can call Schluter tech support directly and ask them if “green board” is one of their approved backers for kerdi. It’s probably better to confirm directly. They told me it was fine and is in their manual but YMMV.

I used something else for backer but apparently there are multiple choices.
