Remodeling Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Need ideas for tiling bathroom with 12 x 24 tiles

I'm redoing our small master bathroom and plan to use a 12x24 porcelain marble tile for the floors and would like to use it for the walls and shower to maintain consistency, but kind of feel like they can make a room look like a mausoleum. What do you all think of these large tiles on walls and shower? We're doing the wall halfway up and plan to do a decorative picture frame niche on one shower wall. Our bathroom is only 8x4. I've seen some people do the tile vertically in the shower. Post measurements of the shower, vanity, floor space etc... 8x4 seems tiny for a full bathroom.

Agree with Patricia. You'll get better flow if you skip the herringbone hall and keep it one pattern. Sort of unusual to have the same tile in bathroom as in surrounding areas...you usually like a little definition to the bathroom. And 12X24 is reeeeally big for a bathroom floor tile-unless your bathroom is huge, the scale could look very odd. Just some considerations.

Small bathrooms are too small for herringbone. Large ones should stick with the classic 2:1 Real world 2:1. Not 1.98 to .8 If it’s not 100% divisible, the pattern will walk as you progress.

thanks everyone. I'm glad you agree with the 12 x 24 because I really like the look. And I will skip the border tile which was iffy in my mind. For the person who told me to fix the layout size, I wish I could. Only eliminating my bedroom closet or an extension on the house could fix the problem. So I'm making the best of it. It works as a 1 person bathroom, and is off the master bedroom so it's not such a problem.

Plenty of rugs won't save you. I was giving the lab a bath. He bolted out the bathroom door after the bath and I rushed to close the door because it was drafty. He scrambled the rugs on the way out, I slipped and fell into the door jamb and broke my wrist.

Would not use the tiles that are linked on a floor. They have R9 Slip Resistance rating which is the least slip resistant rating.

Hi masb333: I'd recommend perhaps a corresponding mosaic tile (small octagon?) in the same material, both for slip resistance and for some visual texture.
