How to get rid of the orangey color in my red paint

I painted an outside bench on my front porch with red chalk paint last year. It faded quite a bit so I decided to update it. I painted over it with a Rust-Oleum colonial Red. The problem is it had a bit of an orange to it that I could hardly stand. I repainted over it again with an apple red, but now I have the same problem, it's just lighter. It actually looks even more orange to me. I'm not sure what to do to get the orange out. Do I need to paint with a white primer first and then the red? Will that give it a true color? I also painted the shutters above them a darker blue. I don't know if that is affecting it or not? Thank you
