I'm not a fan of a sink with an upper over it. I think you need to stand too close to the front of the door, no matter what. But if you are determined to do that, then by all means I would consider using a farm sink and bumping it out. That means setting it proud (forward) of the front of the sink cabinets and the adjacent base cabinets. I have this arrangement (my sink cabinet is bumped out as well) and it makes working at the sink extremely comfortable because I get farther over it. The trick is in the selection of the sink. The classic Rohl fireclays are the same all the way around. The sink on the floor upthread is the same. But some farm sinks have notches on the side to fit against the cabinet fronts. Some have a flange. Before you choose/buy it's important to figure out how you want the sink to look and then choose one that will do what you wish. There are so many choices, even in SS it shouldn't be a problem. One factor is whether you prefer a 0 radius sink (square corners) or a more traditional sink with rounded corners. How far you want the sink to protrude -- mine stick out 2 inches in front of the cabinet. One sink upthread has the curved front and doesn't protrude much. Etc. I do not have one, but I've wanted one! I cannot answer all your questions, but just a couple. I think the choice of double or single bowl depends a lot on the size of the sink. If you are going to go with the 30" size, then single bowl would be better - a double bowl sink in a 30" size may mean that neither bowl is big enough to soak roasting pans, cookie sheets, etc. If you go to a 33" or 36" sink, then the choice is personal preference and your cooking/cleaning style. I myself have a single bowl sink and would never go back to a double, but there are just as many people who would only have a double bowl sink. What have you used and liked or disliked in the past? The advantages of stainless apron front over the traditional fireclay apron front sink are: less expensive, easier to install (fireclay can have uneven dimensions and therefore be harder to scribe the countertops around it), lighter so easier to install, will not chip, and you won't need a drain flange for a disposal (fireclay is thick so in order to install a disposal you would need to buy a longer drain flange). Disadvantages are: the look is not traditional the way fireclay is, and stainless shows water spots and scratches (the scratches develop into a patina over time, so I wouldn't worry about that). Regarding faucets, there are SO many choices. I would make sure that you get a sprayer faucet so that you can easily clean into all the corners. I myself prefer a faucet with an integrated sprayer, rather than a side sprayer. You get better water pressure with an integrated sprayer, and a side sprayer means you have to hold onto the handle for the spray to stay on. Pay attention to the reach of the faucet - that dimension is available on all the brands' websites. You don't want the reach to be too short so that you have to reach far into the sink to grab it. As to brands, I have read on this forum that people really like their Kraus sinks and their Ticor SS stainless sinks; both are heavier 16 gauge. I think Ticor also offers stainless apron front sink with "zero radius" corners, which I would stay away from - those zero radius corners tend to collect gunk. Ticor also offer sinks with "tight radius" corners that will have a very slight curve, which would be easier. A nice kitchen with a SS apron front sink is Hobokenkitchen's. Ikea Domsjo double or single bowl sink is ceramic, and a great look, at a great price. If it breaks, you won't cry copious tears of regret :) Had the single bowl Domsjo in my old house, looked fab and was the only sink I've ever used where I didn't get soaked while doing dishes (I am short, it was not undermount, no idea why this phenomenon happened). It seemed to wear very well with no scuffs or dings, but I moved about a year after installing it. Now I love my huge single bowl granite composite sink from Franke. Very quiet. And it actually is the size of a double bowl and fits in the same cutout. If you love the farmhouse sink and it works with your home, get it. I don't think they will ever be out of style if they are consistent with your particular home's style. Unfortunately I have zero experience with the fireclay, but my experience with the ceramic was very positive. And in the right setting, they look fabulous :) I have had stainless steel sinks. They are o.k. I understand why people like them. But they are totally not for me!

I have had a blanco profina for over a year. I really like it. Haven’t had any issues with cracking. I do have a garbage disposal. The ledge is nice for chopping, and I have a dish drainer that sits on the ledge also. I use a rack in the bottom to protect from pans. Cleaning is a breeze - even easier than stainless sinks I’ve had in the past. I love the way it looks with my white cabinets and countertops. Not sure the centered drain bothers me, but it probably will now that I’ve read your post. At least it will make me think about it. Also I didn’t think I would like one big sink, but I actually do.
