Farm-house sink Vs double bowl sink
Comments (11)Believe me, there are NO plumbing issues involved. What MAY be an issue is finding a hardware store--or other source--for the parts you need to do a changeover. The best thing you can do for yourself is get down and climb under your present sink, the neighbor's sink, your family member's sinks, and familiarize yourself with the plumbing that's under there !! While you're down there, check for leaks, and use a ruler/tape measure to get an idea of sizes. Bathroom sinks are usually 1 1/4" diameter thinwall pipe; the tub/shower and the kitchen sink are, or should be, 1 1/2". One thing to remember: the 1 1/2" thinwall pipe hooked directly to the bottom of your sink, and tied into the "S" or "P" traps under there, is NOT NOT NOT the same as the 1 1/2" drain piping; HOWEVER--there are adapters to mate the thinwall to the heavier piping. By the way, you ARE gonna go to the store and find out what a "P" or "S" trap is, aincha?? Dont be afraid to ask Q's, and do realize many of the guys you ask are about as ignorant as you are when it comes to plumbing....many--not all of 'em. THEN: when you find somebody who sounds like (s)he can help you do this project, and they put down on paper the parts you need, the best thing you can do is repeat the process--go find somebody else at another store who can do likewise, and then compare the parts recommended, &c. Maybe this soundz like plumbing 101--you're right, it is. Anything else spellz disaster in the making, not to mention the resultant feeling you bin ripped off and jerked around, and that you coulda done a better job yourself.... if only.... you'd taken to heart the suggestion of: kenn 1RmSchlHse millersport oHIo -- there's a time and place for spontaneity.......See MoreApron sink help please
Comments (4)Retrofitting is possible but as Rita posted, if you purchase a high quality stainless sink, it would be very unlikely that you would be replacing it and keeping the counter. You do have to look at specifications in terms of what size base is needed. I am buying a 36" apron sink and it is guaranteed to fit into a 36" sink cabinet. However, when shopping I saw that many brands had 33" sinks for 36" cabinets. People go back and forth about functionality but IMHO apron versus a standard sink is really an aesthetic decision - I could have achieved identical functionality with a standard undermount sink but I liked the aesthetics of the copper apron front sink I bought. Mine is slightly less deep than most of the apron front sinks I have seen on the market - 8" versus the 9" or even 10" depth. If you are short, this may be a factor since the bottom of the sink would be lower than might be comfortable....See Morekitchen sink - SS drop in, SS apron front, or white farmhouse sink?
Comments (5)Do you have to do a drop in? I would do an undermount, much nicer look. I use Le Creuset and other cast iron all the time, my SS sink came with a grid at the bottom, it's the best!! It really protects the sink from dishes and cookware. I had a farm sink previously and liked that one also, this time I wanted a more contemporary look and opted for a large SS undermount....See MoreNeed cabinet design help for apron front farmhouse sink
Comments (0)We're doing a remodel in my daughter's small kitchen. We are trying to use one of the flat ship/you assemble cabinet companies. (Any recommendations?) I want to use a 24 inch farm sink. I know that it is always recommended to buy a cabinet that is 3 inches wider than the sink. Without having it completely custom built, I haven't been able to find a cabinet line that has a farm sink cabinet that is 27 inches. I have found one that is 30 inches, but it is difficult to find a fireclay sink that is 27 inches. We really can't go any bigger than a 30 inch cabinet. Oddly when you look at many of the pictures of the sinks they clearly are not in cabinets that are 3 inches wider. It looks like they just sit on two short base cabinets with no filler. Is this a thing? What height should these short cabinets be for a 10 inch undermounted sink? Thanks!...See Moresbp59
