Not sure which way to turn, H-E-L-P!! (xpost to Home Dec)
Comments (9)called the insurance company and adjuster on the roof claim and while they are "very interested", this is a separate issue that is between me and the roofing company. I'm having a water mitigation company come out tomorrow to assess the damage as I have disovered the sheetrock on the wall is wet underneath the window (vinyl wallpaper, so it didn't show throught until I pulled back a little corner). Re: responsibility of roofing company. They didn't hesitate to accept responsibility. I live in "tornado alley", so they are quite accustomed to securing damaged roofs for severe weather and wind. . .after the round of tornadoes in spring 2010, there were people who didn't get their roofs repaired until the following fall and lived for several months with "tarp roofs" over a good portion of their homes....See MoreHelp! I am not sure what to do with this backsplash
Comments (4)Drywall is cheap and easy to patch. I'd just take a metal scraper and start prying that bugger off. If you can't figure out how to patch the drywall, surely one of your contractors can! It really is easy. And cheap. Especially since you will be tiling over most of it, so you don't need a perfect finish coat. (Getting a perfect finish coat is the trickiest aspect, IME.) I had a plastic thing like that as a backsplash behind by utility sink, but mine was screwed to the wall so it was easy to remove without harming the drywall, and I can't see any screw holes in yours, so it was probably glued on. Even so, it might pry off easily enough and then you can just patch the drywall a bit, prime it, and you're good to go. Worst case, you trash the drywall, and you'll just need to cut the drywall to nearby studs, slap up a patch piece, tape and mud a few coats, and it'd done. In my reno, my contractors have had to do that to good drywall at least a dozen times, and one competent guy can get it cut out, patched, taped and mudded to finish coat in just a few hours work....See MoreHelp us save our fig - not sure how much to prune diseased fig
Comments (2)"Really it was very productive last year." The more cuts, the longer it will take to get back to the same production. Decide what your end goal is now. Max figs? Just cutting bad sections out? Opening it up more and making it easier to reach? I think I see tiny holes so it may be something boring into the trunk + maybe frost damage: http://www.caes.uga.edu/newswire/story.html?storyid=5161 Hard pruning (section 8): http://figs4fun.com/basics.html You should be have no worries about chain sawing away any of the branches. If you really want harder pruning, that main trunk's diameter looks very large. I've never seen anyone prune that hard i.e. mature fig tree -> open vase. Your zone may prohibit that; also the other cuts above may require some frost protection for a few years....See MoreKitchen Help! Not sure how to brighten it up?
Comments (92)Color. You need color. The paint samples are all nice but they won't do anything to cheer up/brighten up that kitchen. If you don't want color on the walls, then use your lightest Warm Neutral, brighten up the space with accessories and doodads in a bright cheerful color... and I myself would paint the dining set a matching bright cherry color. (Meant to say cheery, but Cherry sounds pretty good!)...See Morepopchick
