I give up! Houzz you're terrible!

I'll be surprised if this even goes through. I've tried everything to get into the KT. One second I'm in. The next I'm out I was able to get in for about an hour earlier today to read posts and respond. Tonight I get error after error and it doesn't matter which browser. I tried logging out of GW and in with Houzz, but nope: that didn't work. When Houzz get's their poop figured out, find me on Facebook (a few of you are FB friends) and let me know and I'll be back. I don't have the patience for this anymore.

Wow sorry to hear about the bad news. I work in the utilities field, and have run across this problem before myself, ie gardens planted or extensive landscaping in our easements. It sounds like they are going to be replacing their gas lines. So the not so bad news is that unless there is some homeland security issue you'll be able to have your garden again after the work is done! Also as someone mentioned, if you politley and reasonably explain your situation to the crew doing the work, we will usually go out of our way to help you out...scraping your good garden soil up and off to the side out of our way, and then putting it back in place when we're done. Also while the situation does stink bear in mind that the crew doing the work is just a group of normal folks trying to make a living, and they had nothing to do with the situation. One other piece of advice, call the gas company and speak to them preferably whatever crew supervisor is doing the work(get a name first and last of the person you s/w) you may not have to move your whole garden...gas easements are huge...but if the main isn't deep they may only need you to move what you have thats within 5-10 feet of the pipe. My crew has worked many an hour of overtime, putting back someone's garden all because that person politely asked if we could help them out.

De-lurking here to say it's not just you! We had a strange spring with wild weather swings (up to 40F from daytime to night), and I have to say...this is the crappiest rose season I've had in 8 years. Very abundant number of buds--probably the most ever--but the quality of the individual flowers just stinks. Like the worst thrips damage ever, but each and every rose has it. Some roses had stunted/balled/withered buds, others had blackened petal edges, still others didn't bother with blooms. My Queen Elizabeths, easily the most prolific roses in my garden, haven't bloomed yet. There are some old, established bushes that hardly went beyond their pruned size and only spewed a few deformed buds. Thrips are normally a problem on my light colored roses, but this blight is affecting every color. The later developing buds are better--if on the small side. It's the roses that developed first (late April to early May, which is quite late for us) that were the worst. Surprisingly, the roses that seemed to shrug it off best were some of my David Austins--Jude, the Dark Lady, and a few others. But some of the DA's (Abraham Darby) and other shrub roses and climbers (like Sombreuil) were just horrific. My mom came over and said "you know, if you just look at the roses from the house, they're not so bad." Sigh. And we had such a lovely, rainy winter (for us) that I was sure the rose flush was going to be awesome. And the numbers were truly impressive--hundreds of buds on some of my small (3 ft) bushes, which is the best I've seen. But again, the actual quality of the buds was the worst I've ever seen. Some tried and true winners from my garden were hard pruned just because I couldn't bear to look at their browned/blackened/crinkly/balled horrible little blooms. These included: memorial Day, Queen Elizabeth, Sheer Bliss, Peace (sob), Marilyn Monroe, Daybreaker, New Zealand, Just Joey, blue Nile, Evelyn, Abe Darby, Charles Darwin, Autumn Sunset, Golden Something(normally gorgeous downturned sunny yellow blooms, but this time they didn't even open!),Chicago Peace, Tamora, Pink Peace, Mirandy, Mary Rose, Secret (double sob), McCartney Rose, Tiffany....I could go on, but I'm feeling kind of nauseous. To put it in different terms: I have over 160 rose bushes with few repeats, and this year I have only brought six cut blooms into the house. SIX. But who can really blame the poor roses? Last week we hit 100 degrees on Monday, and on Thursday the high was 54 with rain (snow in Flagstaff, poor buggers). What is a plant to do in these conditions? Apparently, they sulk. Now it's getting to be blistering hot again, with humidity in the single digits. Spider Mite season. I won't likely see a good bloom until September, and then the deer and javelinas will be moving in for their Autumn feast. I'm thinking of getting into daffodils. At least the lilies, Shasta daisies, coreopsis, and cannas are doing well. And the glads look like they might actually open this year (last year they were all duds). I'm off to sulk myself. Heather

We had a hot dry summer but making up for it, we have been having a beautiful fall that started earlier than some years with very little freezing. We have had only two nights drop a bit below freezing. I'm not surprised at how well things are doing. My entire yard has been a mass of color and still is. People who don't live here would think going by some of the things said that Oklahoma is an unending natural disaster area. Its not. We have predominantly more nice days than bad days each year and we nearly always have a great fall. Seems like the bad days get all the attention lately. I love this time of year. The trees are gorgeous here in the city and the weather has been stupendous. Most plants have snapped back nicely except some that prefer cooler climates that couldn't take the hot summer. You couldn't ask for a nicer place to garden than in Oklahoma in the fall and we have had many good summers, not every single year, but more good ones than bad in my memory. We are used to comparatively mild winters and at worst, have a couple bad spells or the temperature drops down in the single digits or less a few days. I can think of a lot of places much worse than Oklahoma to live in winter. I once lived in North Carolina and I really missed the Oklahoma wind the whole time I lived there. The wind never blew there. I prefer the Great Plains and I think the good outweighs the bad.

I think maybe? you started with too small quantity of worms. You said $30 for them. So you purchesed 1 1b probably or maybe 2 1bs at the most. I think you should have bought 4 or 5 pounds for one of those big bins. They will mutliply in the right conditions but you have to only feed them as they will eat. I would add some new bedding and feed them zukinie squash and pumpkin or butternut squash and some corn meal. But only give them a 1/2 cup every three or four days for 1 1b. at first and make sure they eat it before giving more. I always start out with cardboard and compost and dried leaves crumbled up and soak the leaves and cardbaord before adding to the compost. If you can buy more worms that would be good so you can feed them more. It does take more than one try for some of us to get the hang of things. That is not too much water in the bedding and not too much food to soon. Do you have any books on worms like " Worms eat my Garbage". I bet that book would help you out alot. Check your local library, it is an old book still available though. Good luck and keep posting your questions. I wish you had more people respond to help out. Bill C

I don't think it's technical difficulties. Things are terrible here. It's taken me an hour to get in at all. If it keeps up, I won't be back. The Kitchen Table is the only forum I do here and if I can't get in, I can't spend an hour a day trying. It didn't used to be this way. What has changed?

If this site doesnt make money then they cant care. Posting a web page isnt free so dont complain. Try and fit what they need to get what you need.

I think content is more important than form in a casual setting. I certainly read and pay attention to Patriciae's posts whenever I see them. I'm grateful for the many different points of view here (although I don't always agree), and those who take their time to participate.

Maybe I'm lucky, but I very rarely have problems with houzz dot com. Between the KT discussion forum, and the topic-specific forums they offer, I'm a fan.

I've not given up, and I think they are making efforts to improve. Sometimes it takes a day or two, but I am still being patient. It's working for me today.

It’s kinda funny, a few months back I was having all sorts of issues that lasted months. People tried to give me advice left and right, but nothing worked. Last couple days? Everything is normal for me. I’m on through the GW URL and gave no idea what you guys are talking about. Hope it resolves itself!

I kept getting the error message yesterday everywhere on gardenweb.com and had to get here via Houzz. Today I used the same gardenweb bookmark to get here and everything is working fine, So glad to be back to normal !

Hey there, The issue from yesterday should be resolved now, but definitely let us know if it is not.

Please remember that GW content is available on Houzz urls, so if you are getting that error, a workaround while the team is working on a fix is to swap gardenweb.com out for houzz.com in your urls. Also, remember to follow topics you frequently visit, and you can always find them if you click on http://houzz.com/discussions. Thanks everyone!

Really Houzz! I have been kicked off twice. Just now. I asked to a Houzz administrator is so that we can go to one specific person or side to be heard and helped. I Talked About how I’ve gotten in and haven’t gotten in and there are lots of differentials. I talked about missing not seeing Raven on the page as much as I used to years ago. I explained how I got in on two different devices one and iPad at one an iPhone And just got kicked off because I said it’s not like we’re in this space for free because House puts lots of ads in between our comments and bang I was gone.

@Maggie200 I'm not sure if you are referring to the site not working for you or having your account suspended, but that's not how the system works. Accounts do not get removed automatically for being critical of Houzz. We always hope to provide a great experience for people, but sometimes errors do come up, and when they do, we try to address them. If you look around, you will see plenty of people commenting on their frustration when this happens - and they do not get booted. :)

This is what I do...

Since I prefer the gardenweb styling, I bookmark: https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions and name it "gardenweb".

Like this: gardenweb (I primarily enter though that door)

And since a browser has room for more bookmarks than one and since errors crop up on gardenweb, I also bookmark https://www.houzz.com/discussions and name it "houzz".

Like this: houzz (When things go awry on the gardenweb domain, I use this one)

If you were locked out of gardenweb for months, have adapted to houzz styling, and don't miss gardenweb styling, you only need the second URL.

The second URL, will always get you here: houzz

One caveat...

gardenweb.com is the same as (redirects to the same place as) gardenweb.com/discussions (where the forums are indexed)

but

houzz.com is NOT the same as houzz.com/discussions (houzz(dot)com(slash)discussions takes you to what gardenweb folks think of as the forums/discussions. houzz(dot)com takes you to the houzz home page but not the forum index. If using the gardenweb URL, you can skip the "/discussions" but not when on the houzz URL)

So...

I'd bookmark two URLs if you prefer gardenweb styling (I do):

gardenweb

and as a fall back for the times errors crop up there:

houzz

Why do errors crop up on the gardenweb domain and take much longer (months for the last one to get fixed? My theory is.... priorities. The houzz domain is the money maker. It's the domain that attracts the spenders and likely it's the domain the techs sit around perusing so when an error on houzz occurs, they notice it and correct it much much faster than they do an error on the gardenweb domain. Like I say though, I'm just speculating. :)

I'm having troubled as well. I have to get in through an old post that asks where the Kitchen Table has gone and someone provided a link. As for posting pictures, forget it. They just won't post.
