Sounds like she had a mild reaction to the vaccine, but is past it? Are you two still masking when out and limiting social contact?

You’re 90% immune and in the unlikely event you have it your viral load is supposedly low. She’s at least 80% immune. Unless one of you is swimming around the general public maskless, I’d say you’re both very safe. A fraction less safe than you’ll be in two weeks, sure, but you’ll never be 100% anyway. No question I’d feel comfortable.

Not a physician and not in any way medically knowledgeable but for what it's worth, I would feel comfortable not waiting for her 2 week post shot.

ETA: I've had my son over several times as we watch our grandson quite often. He works inside peoples home (he owns his own carpet and upholstery cleaning business) but masks up all the time, is OCD about sanitizing and washes his clothes as soon as he walks into the house and runs up to shower right away. He just got his first Pfizer shot yesterday. My husband only got his first 3 weeks ago, and I get mine in 9 days.

I would wait for the two week period, just to be safe. That is what we did with our adult children and fortunately we are all Covid free at this time.

I would think it'd be ok...she's mostly immune at this point and you are as well, and you're unlikely to be a carrier as you're fully vaccinated. But if you want to be super safe, then wait the 2 weeks.

I too am outside of the fields of expertise but from what I've read, it takes time for any inoculation to work. Normally, about two weeks. Of the Pfizer and Moderna flavors, two shots are given for a reason.

With that in mind, her own system is arguably little different three days after getting a second shot from three days before. I doubt you'll find an authoritative answer to your question so do as you see fit.

It's likely safe but there are so many "We're Not Sure" parts with all this. DH and I both had Covid last November and are both now fully vaccinated. Some people seem to think that means permanent immunity. I have no idea what they're basing that on.

I should add:

It's been a hard year for everyone, because of all the disruption, unwanted changes, and burdens we've all had to face. It was an especially hard year for the people who didn't survive and for their families and friends.

With that in mind, I've heard a surprising number of people express the equivalent of "I'm so over this inconvenience, I'm moving on." To which I usually reply "We all are tired of it but it's up to the the public health experts and your medical providers to tell YOU when it's over for you. And for you then to weigh what you hear and decide for yourself". It isn't over simply because of a fatigue factor, but of course decisions are personal and should be made based upon real facts and information. Consequences of decisions, especially bad decisions, are mostly personal too.

Of course none of us is an expert who knows everything, we’re all just processing the informatjon du jour that’s being fed to us. Today that says that Eld is 90% protected and daughter 80%. There will always be risks, so personal behaviors need to be taken into account. Two reasonably responsible masker/distancers, probably close to safe as they’ll ever be. That would be my assessment. YMMV.

Like chloebud mentioned there are too many "not knowns". People just have to accept the consequences of their own behavior. There are too many "expert's" saying one thing then another "expert" saying something completely different. Yesterday was my 14th day but given what is happening in other parts of the world are just reaching the US I think I will stay masked when I visit my friends who are also vaccinated. Double masking in public places.

There are far too many experts (not expert's)? I don't think so. Too many wannabees and pretenders, yes, and maybe that's what you meant by using quote marks. The true experts have been pretty consistent and in agreement all along, unless I missed something. What isn't known with certainty isn't known and I think that's the only part of their communications where they've been either tentative or non-committal. Judgements have been offered, yes, but with caveats.

Please remember fever may be due to something contagious, other than COVID (or the vaccination). Your vaccination only protects you from COVID, not the numerous other fever producing infections. Need to balance risk vs. benefit.

I've not found the 'experts' too far off the same page.

It is the primary care doctors giving bad advice. My county is high red-zone anti-vacers. Only a few counties in the state of NY. A religious group. I went just 15 miles away to get my vaccination.

Remember your primary care physician had maybe 8 hours of infectious disease study in medical school. They are not experts unless they care to study further or/many just want the income for homes and boats and family comfort. Some just don't care but are good at being focused at the moment. Then move on...telling you what you want to hear.

A kook here early in lock-down would not stop about a mask 'muzzle's .Refused to wear a 'muzzle'. Her Doctor and her dh DR said it is not necessary...get a new informed primary DR.

The initial studies can only follow those initial studies. Those that did the trials. So simple to follow. Clearly one day today will not be like tomorrow.

If you stay away from FOX, I see no mixed information. It is expected that one day will be a different day tomorrow outcome due to trial vaccines vs our vaccines. They are testing the trial vaccine recipients to study our future.

Why can’t you just wear your mask when you see her to be sure? DH just had #2 & I’m a week out from #2, but we’ll wear masks when my mom comes over on Sunday.

For Elmer and others I do hope that you are aware that until the virus and what happened is researched many years from now no one will really know which one of the "expert's" was correct in their assumptions. The reality may be far different that what is currently seen. Each expert then as now will have their own interpretation of what happened.

The plural of expert is experts. No apostrophe is used to form a plural of any word. An apostrophe is for an abbreviation (as with contractions) or a possessive sense.

On to your comment, yes, I do understand that. Profoundly, for someone outside of the field. I have a relative who is an immunologist, we talk about current events from time to time.

So, the problem that I have with not wearing a mask in public or with family is that we now have varied mutations floating around. We even have 5 cases of the one that India is fighting. At some point, the vaccine might not protect from one of the mutations and then what? . I’m vaccinated, it’s been about a month now but I still use a mask when I’m around other people.

Have it your way except I doubt if more than one expert is talking at the same time.

The comma should be a semicolon as you did not use a conjunction between the two independent clauses.

For this forum, informal talk, either a comma or the word "and" is fine. Using a phone also limits enthusiasm for following style guidelines or more formal grammar rules. Spelling rules are what they are.

Sorry, that's incorrect. "A" is a letter, not a word. An apostrophe can be used for plurals of individual letters, symbols, and numbers. Not for words.

Follow the SCIENCE: Once fully vaccinated it does not matter what ANYONE else did or didn't do. You are as protected as you can be. It is HIGHLY unlikely you would catch/carry/put off the virus. Go see your daughter.

SCIENCE says her daughter is not fully vaccinated. It’s not clear to me if Eld is concerned about herself or her daughter, but I’m assuming daughter. I’d agree there appears to be a low risk of Eld being a substantial carrier, and therefore agree it would be quite a safe visit. But I also write as someone who caught covid while to my knowledge following CDC and government guidelines.

I understand what has been stated. I do not post sometimes, as I do not spell well, and English class was not a strong point. Now that I am close to 80 I do not care if I am wrong. I just to not to upset the people who know and care. To me all this banter is silly, but to others it is important.

I agree with others it is more important to have many many voices. Even voices that aren't as quickly understood or spell things incorrectly etc. I was an ESL youngster coming into school and suffered for it and I too came to a point where I didn't care. I see that FLU is making up for lost time, presumably due to the 'masks off' folks.

I'm skipping an indoor gathering on Mothers Day where some attending have not received Covid vaccinations yet. I'd hate to have wasted 14 months of being careful only to get sick before summer arrives and we can be outdoors without masks. (I found cute little tin pots of flowers and balloons to send along to those attending.)
