WWYD? Formerly smart doctor now has dumb/rude nurse.
Comments (34)I still don't have a clue how the hospital found out that I needed the test -- that baffles me. But they knew at the time they called to schedule that the insurance would cover it, and by the time I showed up for the test, they had an estimate ready for my co-pay. All of this before the doctor's office even bothered to call me back to tell me that I could schedule the test myself. Honestly, I'm getting the feeling that this nurse just does not like me. She doesn't follow through in a timely manner with anything the doctor orders for me, avoids speaking to me when she can, and is downright frosty when she's forced to interact. I think the idea of writing everything down is a good plan. I'm going to do that, then bring it up to the doctor the next time I see him face to face. I worry that he might "take her side", but then I think it's ridiculous that there ARE sides. I'd hate to lose a good doctor over this but, at this point, I am almost eight weeks into trying to find out what is wrong and I feel like his nurse is compromising my medical care -- so what do I really have to lose? Thanks for your help and support....See Moreback to my eyelid lift question, WWYD?
Comments (33)Some years ago, several of my friends recommended an internist, saying he was as caring and available as any doctor could be. I signed up with him and found him to be as advertised. His thoroughness and comprehensive caring were unique. Unfortunately, his office staff members (in an office of 4 docs) were a disaster. Messages not passed along, test results not communicated and sometimes lost, on and on. I mentioned this to him a number of times over the years. He would shake his head, apologize, and say that personnel matters were an ongoing problem. But little was ever done, new hires weren't any better than those they replaced. I reached my limit and switched to a young, bright internist who works at a local medical school practice as part time faculty and part time clinician. It was like going from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era. It's a well oiled machine. I sometimes get test results the same day. I get reminders for appointments by phone and email and leave every appointment with a copy of the doctors notes and items for follow up and all info remains available indefinitely on the website. When I contact them, I get a complete and thoughtful response in a few hours. I've sent my doc emails in the evening with questions and I've sometimes gotten back responses in less than 15 minutes. My new doc is a bit more mindful of time but, I think, is more comprehensive and the med school setting requires her to be more up to date. I see this practice for more than just GP stuff and everyone is the same. And after every appointment, I get an email with a patient survey, asking me to provide them with information that describes my experience and point out what was good and what was bad. There's no excuse for a poorly run practice and no need to be stuck using any doctor who doesn't pay attention to the totality of the patient experience....See MoreNot to beat a dead horse, C-virus manners, etiquette, WWYD?
Comments (43)You're right Daisy. Running, you said, " I think people responding were simply trying to give you some additional options, the most logical and effective of which is to prevent possibly exposed or infected people from coming into your home until this crisis passes. It's the micro version of why many public gathering places and events are being cancelled-avoiding other people is how to hopefully stop the spread of the virus." But you and others in this thread are still having your house cleaned by someone who could very well be carrying the virus. The client who came over was a one time thing. The person who will be constantly going to your home and other's homes, will be ongoing. Why are housekeepers safer than the one client who came to my house? My head is spinning at the hypocrisy. Those of you who have housekeepers have no idea where they've been, where their families have been. I agree with everything posters have said, but I'm not understanding why some posters are being contrary to my one and hopefully only situation....See MoreHas anyone had Covid?
Comments (133)Vaccines are great - if you have access to them. I worked as a traveling nurse for the state for a while, assessing ill/handicapped children for a state paid assistance program. There was only a tiny per cent of my caseload that I could not find, usually because the family had moved and not informed their caseworker, and sometimes I had to drive for hours to find my clients. I have no doubt that refrigerated mobile vaccine clinics will be made available. I have no doubt that incentives of various kinds will be made available to help those who need help accessing the vaccine. After all, it seems like it would be to the government's advantage to help get everyone vaccinated, so that the people can return to work and thereby fund tax bills that pays for government. Billions have been spent on research and development, I would think distribution costs and aggravations will be surmountable....See MoreUser
